The VDCs covered under this package include eight VDCs of Rupandehi district namely: Anandaban, Devadaha, Madhawalia, Makrahar, Karahiya, Kerwani, Shankar Nagar and Tikuligadh. Mr. KulBahadurChaudhari was involved and solely credited for the preparation of maps, database and reports on risk themes. The VDC areas analyzed for different themes of the NLUP Project are computed from cadastral maps provided by DOLIA Office of Nepal. Therefore, the areas of the VDCs may not be the same as computed from Topographic Database provided by the Survey Department of Nepal. The consultant is obliged to state that the Imageries, GIS database and other outputs produced for the project is owned by National Land Use Project (NLUP), Mid-Baneshwor, Kathmandu. Therefore, the authorization from the NLUP is required for the usage and/or publication of the data in part or the whole. The objective of this paper is to assess the knowledge of farmers about IPM and its effectiveness in this district. It was carried out by conducting semi-structured interview with the participants of IPM FFS, vegetable growing farmers, stakeholders and local people with the help of standard questionnaire, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and key informant interview. The IPM program is found to be conducted by an international non-government organization viz. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and government organizations viz. Plant Protection Directorate (PPD), Agronomy Development Directorate (ADD) and District Agriculture Development Organization (DADO) through Farmer’s Field School (FFS) in this district. In total forty IPM FFS was conducted from 1998 to 2015 which provided training about IPM in rice and vegetable crops to 1057 farmers in which 393 were male and 664 female. Although a significant difference has been found in the knowledge about the amount of pesticide used, biological method of pest control for IPM by FFS participant and nonparticipant farmers, it is not observed in their behavior during the cultivation of crops in the farm.

    Rupandehi Is a District of Lumbini Zone Comes Under the Western Development Region

    Rupandehi is a district of Lumbini Zone comes under the western development region. Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, the light of Asia, falls under this district. Rupandehi district is situated in the lovely lap of the Chure range and bordered by Palpa on the north, India on the south, Kapilvastu on the west and Nawalparasi on the east. The total area of this district is 1172 square kilometer. The geographical position of the district is 83 010’ to 83 030’ longitudes in the east and 27 010’ to 27 045’ latitude in the north. The total surface area of the district is 141,340 ha with an altitude ranging from 95m to 1219m above the sea level. There are 6 major land use categories in Rupandehi district, of which the dominant land use category is cultivated land (68.03%) followed by forest (21.56%). Since the district is under the Terai region, very little amount of Mountain and Rocky cliff is available i.e. 0.29%. Geographically, Rupandehi district is flat and formed from the alluvial deposits, the surface gradually slopes towards south, hence, the rivers and streams flow towards the same direction. Rupandehi is situated in the tropical bio-climatic zone therefore its climate is sub tropical. There are four distinct seasons occurring in this area namely, spring (pre monsoon) occurs from March-May, summer (monsoon) from June - August, fall (post-monsoon) from September –November, and winter season occurs from December - February. The spring or pre-monsoon season is hot and dry while monsoon or rainy season is hot and humid.

    Strengthening Rail Transport Connectivity in South and South West Asia A country presentation from Nepal th 15 March 2017 Ananta Acharya 1 TIMELINE 1927: Raxaul Amlekhgunj Railway construction started and continued in operation till 1970AD 1937: Feb 16 Jaynagar-janakpur-Bijalpura (NJJR) 51 km came into operation but in 2000 washout of Bigi Bridge, the service remained limited only to Janakpur (29km) 2 Initiatives 2006: Nepal signed Trans Asian Railways (TAR)Agreement 2008: East West Electrified Railway Project Office Established. 2009: Feasibility study of East-West(945km), Kathmandu - Pokhara(187km), Anbukhaireni-Bharatpur link(72km) completed. 2010 : MoU between GOI and GON signed for cross border railway connectivity at 5 different locations. 3 Contd, 2011 : In June 15 Department of Railways Established. 2012 :Feasibility study of KTM Valley MRT completed 2013 : Detailed Project Report of Simara-Bardibas and Birgunj link completed(136km) 2014 : Construction Began for track bed, RUB and ROB in Bardibas-Lalbandi section 4 Nepal became a member of Trans Asian Railways (TAR) GoN signed on 10 November, 2006 Ratification on 6 March, 2012 ` 5 National Railway Network Plan 6 Railway length as per Feasibility Study Report (2008) Section Length (km) MechI-Mahakali 945 Kathmandu-Pokhara 187 Anbukhaireni-Tamsaria 72 Simra-Birgunj 33 Butwal –Bhairhwa-Lumbini 44 Kohalpur - Nepalgunj 14 Itahari-Biratnagar 22 Total 1317 7 Cross Border Railway Project Progress 1. Jaynagar- Janakpu-Bardibas ( 69km) . 80% of Earthwork and Culverts completed, 50% of Bridge works complete, Station Building works are underway in Jaynagar-Janakpur Section, . 65% of Earthwork and Culverts completed, 20% of Bridge works complete, Station Building works are underway in Janakpur-Bijalpura Section .
