Forward-thinking ski areas

Every year, ski resorts make the most of new technology to offer ever more innovative experiences wanted by skiers. Many resorts throughout France have steadily invested in both pioneering and comfort-enhancing equipment.

This winter, there are new state-of-the-art lifts, specifically designed to suit each location. For example, in Courchevel a new 10-seat gondola is part of the redevelopment of the Praz holiday resort, and in Vars, a hybrid lift will enhance the Chabrières holiday resort and give it more character. In Valberg the resort has undergone a reorganisation improving transport and traffic. In Le Grand- Bornand, an investment programme costing more than 20 million euros has resulted in an extensive restructuring of part of the holiday resort. And, a pioneering new (Charmieux) will revolutionise the way we use them. Its angled seats make it much easier for passengers to board and exit the ski runways.

There are noteworthy designs for two iconic rides in Les Arcs. A completely new funicular line will depart from Bourg Saint Maurice and is 100% 8 electrically powered. And the Aiguille Rouge station has already been labelled a “twentieth century heritage” site. Its outstanding architecture has a unique feature – its exterior is painted completely black.

The installation of these lifts is often a challenge, as demonstrated by the the construction of the Pierre Grosse gondola in Les 2 Alpes. The build undertaken at an altitude of more than 3000m, makes access to, and the transportation of materials, incredibly difficult. These same challenges are evident for other ski areas which are undergoing extensions, for instance in Valloire where the highest point of the area will rise to 2750m with the installation of its new chairlifts.

The gondolas are becoming an increasingly enjoyable means of travel, particularly when it comes to the ride at Saint-Martin-de-Belleville with a more comfortable gondola journey which enables passengers to reach the area of the 3 Vallées. And, in Les Angles there are super modern cabins with solar panels (Les Pélérins). When it comes to chairlifts, a new one, accessible to pedestrians as well as skiers, has been installed in Val d’Allos (Marin Pascal).

And following news just in, we’re looking forward to see how ex French basketball champion Tony Parker and his team will do now he has taken over the Villard- de-Lans/ Corrençon ski area. Their strategy, in particular, aims to promote the benefits of the mountains to a younger audiences. AT THE CUTTING EDGE CUTTING THE AT FRENCH MOUNTAINS
