From being a device mainly used for phone calls and writing text messages the mobile phone of today, or commonly referred to as the smartphone, has become a multi-purpose device. Because of its size and thermal constraints there are certain limitations in areas of battery life and computational capabilities. Some say that cloud computing is just another buzzword, a way to sell already existing technology. Others claim that it has the potential to transform the whole IT-industry. This thesis is covering the intersection of these two fields by investigating if it is possible to increase the speed of mobile phones by offloading computational heavy mobile phone application functions by using cloud computing. A mobile phone application was developed that conducts three computational heavy tests. The tests were run twice, by not using cloud computing offloading and by using it. The time taken to carry out the tests were saved and later compared to see if it is faster to use cloud computing in comparison to not use it. Put simply, CSS handles the look and feel of a web page. With CSS, you can control the color of text, the style of fonts, the spacing between paragraphs, how columns are sized and laid out, what back- ground images or colors are used, as well as a variety of other visual effects. CSS was created in language that is easy to learn and understand, but it provides powerful control over the presentation of a document. Most commonly, CSS is combined with the markup languages HTML or XHTML. These markup languages contain the actual text you see in a web page — the hyperlinks, paragraphs, headings, lists, and tables — and are the glue of a web docu- ment. They contain the web page’s data, as well as the CSS document that contains information about what the web page should look like, and JavaScript, which is another language that pro- vides dynamic and interactive functionality. HTML and XHTML are very similar languages. In fact, for the majority of documents today, they are pretty much identical, although XHTML has some strict requirements about the type of syntax used. I discuss the differences between these two languages in detail in Chapter 2, and I also pro- vide a few simple examples of what each language looks like and how CSS comes together with the language to create a web page. The Semantic Web and Linked Data gained traction in the last years. However, the majority of information still is contained in unstructured documents. This can also not be expected to change, since text, images and videos are the natural way how humans interact with information. Semantic structuring on the other hand enables the (semi-)automatic integration, repurposing, rearrangement of information. NLP technologies and formalisms for the integrated representation of unstructured and semantic content (such as RDFa and Microdata) aim at bridging this semantic gap. However, in order for humans to truly benefit from this integration, we need ways to author, visualize and explore unstructured and semantically enriched content in an integrated manner. In this paper, we present the WYSIWYM (What You See is What You Mean) concept, which addresses this issue and formalizes the binding between semantic representation models and UI elements for authoring, visualizing and exploration. With RDFaCE and Pharmer we present and evaluate two complementary showcases implementing the WYSIWYM concept for different application domains. Adam Master of Science in Computer Science San Diego State University, 2011 Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) is a style language that separates the style of a web document from its content. It is used to customize the layout and control the appearance of web pages written by markup languages. CSS saves time while developing the web page by applying the same layout and style to all pages in the website. Furthermore, it makes the website easy to maintain by just editing one file. In this thesis, we developed a CSS web tool that is intended to web developers who will hand-code their HTML and CSS to have a complete control over the web page layout and style. The tool is a form wizard that helps developers through a user-friendly interface to create a website template with a valid CSS and XHTML code.
