Saint Xavier High School Saturday, February 28, 2015 The St. Francis Xavier Society enrolls committed individuals who, in the spirit of St. Francis Xavier, dedicate themselves to the betterment of life by endorsing an educational process that integrates the rigors of academic excellence with the light and guidance of Divine faith. As a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School, we realize that today’s young people are precious sources of goodness and that Society members support the philosophy, values and experiences that a Catholic education at Saint Xavier provides. The Society has been established as an organization that requires an annual gift of one thousand dollars or more. Since being founded in 1986, gifts from Society members have been used to fund Saint Xavier’s need-based tuition assistance program along with many other school enhancements. When you think of the Theodore James Ryken 1864 Society, think exclusivity. It takes a special type of individual to commit himself or herself at this level. Someone with all the unwavering determination of, say, a Theodore James Ryken. Theodore James Ryken (1797-1871) was a man who spent his entire life in the service of God, the Catholic Church and Catholic Education. In 1839, he founded the Xaverian Brothers in a small house in Bruges, Belgium. In 1854, he and his Brothers came to America and opened a grade school in Louisville, Kentucky. Ten years later, in 1864, they opened Saint Xavier High School in a small building on Fourth Street in downtown Louisville. That building has since been torn down, but Theodore Ryken’s legacy lives on at the current Saint Xavier location on Poplar Level Road. The Ryken Society exists to preserve the kind of Catholic education that Theodore James Ryken cared so much about – an academic environment where mind, body and spirit are nurtured. Ryken Society members will help keep his dream alive. 2015 Legacy... Fund-A-Need (Donate Button) Since our beginning 150 years ago, St. X has continued to live by one of the Xaverian Brothers founding principles: to make Saint Xavier education affordable to the young men of our community. Throughout much of our history, this was provided by the grace of the Brothers religious mission. Today, however, we must provide real dollars as assistance to families who may not be able to afford the full cost of tuition. One in every four St. X students receives need-based tuition assistance. We encourage you to fulfill this Xaverian legacy and assist young men who desire a Saint Xavier education by making a gift to Fund- A-Need. Simply click the DONATE BUTTON on your Smartphone and select an amount. Or if you would like to select a different amount, click the “$”. On behalf of the students and families who benefit from the Annual Fund, we would like to extend a special thank you to all of our donors who contributed items for the auction wall. NEED HELP?
