Upon arrival they will meet tour manager at the airport and proceed to 1 Hotel. Today we have free time for acclimatization. In the evening we enjoy short Meet & Greet session. Dinner Day Leh – Alchi – Lamayuru – Kargil (1 Night) Today we proceed to Kargil via Fotu La Pass and Namki La pass. Kargil is known as the location of the Indo-Pakistani border war of 1999 2 En route we visit Patthar Sahib Gurudwara - a beautiful Gurudwara sahib constructed in the memory of Guru Nanak, Magnetic Hill – also known as Gravity Hill where vehicles defy the force of gravity, Sangam of the rivers Indus & Zanskar - two of Himalaya's great rivers; Zanskar and Indus merge to form a spectacular view, Alchi Gompa - known for its magnificent and well preserved 11th & 12th century wall paintings, Moon land - the land resembles that of moon, Lamayuru Monastery - one of the largest and oldest gompas in Ladakh. In the evening we arrive at Kargil Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Kargil – Drass – Leh (1 Night) Today we proeed to Drass, here we visit Drass War Memorial, also known as Vijay Memorial – built in the memory of the martyr soldiers 3 of the 1999 Kargil War. Then we visit Mulbekh Monastery. In the evening we arrive at Leh. Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Leh – Khardung La Pass – Nubra Valley (2 Nights) Today we proceed to Nubra Valley via Khardung La - the world’s highest motorable pass. Nubra valley - the Shyok River meets the 4 Siachen River to form this large valley separating the Ladakh and Karakoram ranges. Upon arrival we visit we visit Diskit monastery – oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in Nubra valley. Later we visit Hunder Village and Cold desert - the only place in India where twin humped camels are found Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Nubra Valley – Turtuk – Thang – Nubra Valley Today we proceed to Turtuk village which was first opened for the tourists in the year 2010, while visiting Turtuk we see Thoise Airport 5 (Military Airfield), then we visit Turtuk wooden bridge, Turtuk monastery, late we walk through Baltic village. Further we visit Thang village (Subject to operation)- Northern most last village at LOC. Here we take a photo stop at LOC point Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Nubra Valley – Pangong Tso – Durbuk (1 Night) Today we proceed to Pangong Tso, also known as Pangong Lake - one of the world's highest saltwater lakes. The most notable feature 6 of this lake are its ever-changing hues. The lake acts as an important breeding ground for a large variety of migratory birds like Brahmani Ducks, Rare black necked cranes and Seagulls. Later we proceed to Durbuk Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Durbuk – Leh Today we Proceed to Leh via Changla pass, one of the highest motor-able road in the world. The name Changla pass literally means 7 "Northern Pass" (Chang means north and La means Pass). En route we visit Hemis Gompa – a Himalayan Buddhist monastery which is believed to be the wealthiest and the biggest monastery in Leh and Photo stop at Thiksey monastery. In the evening, we enjoy the folk dance show Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Leh Today we visit Shey Palace – used to be the summer retreat of the royal family of Ladakh, Sindhu Darshan - one of the longest rivers in 8 Asia, Rancho School - also known as Druk White Lotus school, Hall of Fame War Museum – a museum constructed by the Indian Army in memory of the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives defending the motherland in the Indo-Pak wars. Shanti Stupa – built by the Japanese monks to promote world peace Later we have free time for shopping. Breakfast Lunch Dinner Day Leh – Departure It’s time now to say goodbye to our travel companions. NAVCHOO Department of Botany University of Kashmir Srinagar 190006 India ABSTRACf.-This paper puts on record the ethnobotanical information of some plants used by inhabitants of Ladakh (India) for medicine, A comparison of the uses of these plants in Ladakh and other parts of India reveal that 21 species have varied uses while 19 species are not reported used. INTRODUCTION Ladakh (elev. 3000-59G(}m), the northernmost part of India is one of the most elevated regions of the world with habitation up to 55(}(}m. The general aspect is of barren topography. The climate is extremely dry with scanty rainfall and very little snowfall (Kachroo et al. 1976). The region is traditionally rich in ethnic folklore and has a distinct culture as yet undisturbed by external influences. The majority of the population is Buddhist and follow their own system of medicine, which has been in vogue for centuries and is extensively practiced. It offers interesting insight into an ancient medical profession. The system of medicine is the"Amchi system" (Tibetan system) and the practi­ tioner, an"Amchi." The system has something in common with the "Unani" (Greek) and"Ayurvedic" (Indian) system of medicine. Unani is the traditional system which originated in the middle east and was followed and developed in the Muslim world; whereas the Ayurvedic system is that followed by Hindus since Rig vedic times. Both are still practiced in India. Though all the three systems make USe of herbs (fresh and dry), minerals, animal products, etc., the Amchi system, having evolved in its special environment, has its own characteristics.

It is not just because of my involvement in the conservation issues of the state of Jammu & Kashmir, but I am impressed with the Ladakhi version of the Field Guide. As the Field Guide has been specially produced for the local youth, I hope that the Guide will help in conserving the unique mammal species of Ladakh.
