Leh’s a place that’s all too easy to fall in love with – but take things very easy on arrival as the altitude requires a few days' acclimatization before you can safely start enjoying the area's gamut of adventure activities. Day 1 - Arrival -Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace & Central Asian Museum Leh by flight, you will meet our representative at airport and transfer to Hotel, traditional welcome at the hotel with Khataks and welcome tea and coffee. Full day rest to get acclimatized to the high altitude of 3524 Meters (11,500 ft). Later in the evening visit Shanti Stupa and Leh Bazar for orientation. Dinner and Overnight at hotel. Accommodation: Spic N Span or Similar Meals :Breakfast & Dinner Day 2 Leh- Alchi- Leh & Stok (140 Kms) After early Breakfast driven towards east of Ladakh to visit Alchi (958-1055),. Alchi is 70 Km east of Ladakh on the Srinagar- Leh Highway(NH1) situated in the bank on Indus river, and it is said to be oldest and most famous monastery of Ladakh after the detailed tour of the monastery have Lunch in Alchi and later drive back Visit Spituk Monastery also know as Kali Mata Mandir the monastery have a giant statue of Kali Mata which is only unveiled during the annual Spitul Festival. Dinner at local Ladakh house in Stok Village and overnight at Hotel. Turtuk was captured by Indian army in the 1971 war from Pakistan. This village has a similar culture and language to Ladakhi. The religion of Turtuk is mostly Nurbakshi Muslim; some villages are Shia. Arrive Turtuk by afternoon visit the local village and check in at Hotel/Camp. Dinner and overnight at hotel/camp. Accommodation: Desert Oasis Camp or Similar Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 5 – Nubra-Pangong (150 kms) After Breakfast drive to Pangong via the Shayok river route which is 150 Kms from Nubra approx. 5-6 Hours’ drive. The entire are is entirely isolated and you will hardly and really come across another living soul; so, we recommend to carry Mineral Water and snacks. After all, `this there is no denying the fact that the road is highly scenic. Reach Pangong by late afternoon and check in at Hotel/Camp. Pangong Lake- The lake is hardly six to seven kilometers at its widest point and over 130km long, it is bisected by the international border between India and China. Enjoy the evening on the lake side with beautiful sunset The Saline water Lake is at the height of 4,350 m (14,270 ft) and has a brilliant color variation including deep blue and turquoise. Accommodation: Redstart Pangong or Similar Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 6 – Pangong- Leh (149 Kms) Leave Pangong after breakfast and drive back towards Leh from the different route via crossing the second highest motrable road Changla Pass. At the Karu road junction, drive across the Indus and take the road to Hemis, visit the famous 17th century Hemis Monastery which is one of the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. INTRODUCTION Ladakh (elev. 3000-59G(}m), the northernmost part of India is one of the most elevated regions of the world with habitation up to 55(}(}m. The general aspect is of barren topography. The climate is extremely dry with scanty rainfall and very little snowfall (Kachroo et al. 1976). The region is traditionally rich in ethnic folklore and has a distinct culture as yet undisturbed by external influences. The majority of the population is Buddhist and follow their own system of medicine, which has been in vogue for centuries and is extensively practiced. It offers interesting insight into an ancient medical profession. The system of medicine is the"Amchi system" (Tibetan system) and the practi­ tioner, an"Amchi." The system has something in common with the "Unani" (Greek) and"Ayurvedic" (Indian) system of medicine. Unani is the traditional system which originated in the middle east and was followed and developed in the Muslim world; whereas the Ayurvedic system is that followed by Hindus since Rig vedic times. Both are still practiced in India. Though all the three systems make USe of herbs (fresh and dry), minerals, animal products, etc., the Amchi system, having evolved in its special environment, has its own characteristics.
