Various methods in tissue culture and molecular breeding have been applied to the production of commercially important lily species and cultivars. However, scientific research data of such species and varieties that have potential in the northern climate is scarce. In this work, different biotechnological methods were developed and used in the production and culture of a diversity of lily species belonging to different taxonomic groups. The aim was to test and develop further the existing methods in plant biotechnology for the developmental work and the production of novel hardy lily cultivars for northern climates. -

Flowers that are insect-pollinated are called entomophilous; literally "insect-loving" in Latin. They can be highly modified along with the pollinating insects by co-evolution. Flowers commonly have glands called nectaries on various parts that attract animals looking for nutritious nectar. Birds and bees have color vision, enabling them to seek out "colorful" flowers. Some flowers have patterns, called nectar guides, that show pollinators where to look for nectar; they may be visible only under ultraviolet light, which is visible to bees and some other insects. Flowers also attract pollinators by scent and some of those scents are pleasant to our sense of smell. Not all flower scents are appealing to humans, a number of flowers are pollinated by insects that are attracted to rotten flesh and have flowers that smell like dead animals, often called Carrion flowers including Rafflesia, the titan arum, and the North American pawpaw (Asimina triloba). -

The paper shows the results of floristic investigations of 12 islands and several skerries of the inner part of SW Finnish archipelago, situated within a square of 11.56 km2. The research comprised all vascular plants – growing spontaneously and cultivated, and the results were compared to the present flora of a square 10 × 10 km from the Atlas of Vascular Plants of Finland, in which the studied area is nested. The total flora counted 611 species, among them, 535 growing spontaneously or escapees from cultivation, and 76 exclusively in cultivation. The results showed that the flora of Seili and adjacent islands was almost as rich in species as that recorded in the square 10 × 10 km. This study contributed 74 new species to this square. The hitherto published analyses from this area did not focus on origin (geographic-historical groups), socioecological groups, life forms and on the degree of threat of recorded species. Spontaneous flora of the studied area constituted about 44% of the whole flora of Regio aboënsis. -

Osnovnu školu „Vuk Karadzić“ u Lebanu završava 2009. godine sa odličnim uspehom. Medicinsku školu, smer farmaceutski tehničar, u Leskovcu završava 2013. Nakon toga upisuje osnovne akademske studije na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu Univerziteta u Nišu, na Departmanu za biologiju i ekologiju, koje završava 2016. godine. Iste godine upisuje master akademske studije, smer Biologija, a 2018. godine, nakon svih položenih ispita, prijavljuje master rad. SAŽETAK U ovom radu analizirane su anatomske i morfološke karakteristike populacija vrste Gagea pratensis sa područja Srbije, Crne Gore i Bugarske (lokaliteti Lovćen, obronci Rodopa, Kunovica, Komovi, Vratna, Klačevački rid). -

Molecular Phylogeny and Divergence Times Estimates of Lilium Section Liriotypus (Liliaceae) Based on Plastid and Nuclear Ribosomal ITS DNA Sequence Data

Th e study group covers Lilium species from Europe, the Italian and Balkan peninsulas, Anatolia, and the Caucasus. Plastid DNA sequence data (the trnC-petN intergenic spacer and petN gene) and nuclear DNA ITS sequence data were used to infer the phylogenetic history of the section Liriotypus. Molecular phylogenetic dating using the molecular clock hypothesis with sequences of nrDNA ITS region was used to calculate the time of diversifi cation within the section Liriotypus and with other members of the genus Lilium. Th e phylogenetic reconstruction based on combined analysis of plastid and nrDNA ITS sequence data shows that all of the analysed species of section Liriotypus form a well-supported monophyletic clade. However, there are some incongruences between the analysis made by plastid DNA alone and with a combined dataset regarding the positions of L. monadelphum M.Bieb., L. szovitsianum Fisch. & Avé-Lall., L. ciliatum P.H.Davis, and L. akkusianum R.Gämperle. Our molecular dating analysis based on nrDNA ITS sequence data showed that members of the section Liriotypus were separated from the rest of the genus Lilium approximately 9 million years ago and within this section, speciation increased in the last 6 million years. -
