Early in their marriage in 1971, John and Renee Linn decided to live out their lives on a farm. The couple decided that for the next five years they o would focus exclusively on growing their family and creating a nest egg that would allow them to buy into their version of the American dream. So, o they bundled up their newborn son, packed their books and student loans into a ’64 VW bug and headed for Denver to begin working toward their future destiny. d In 1975 the Linns’ visited Cambria, California for the wedding of a high school buddy whose parents had a small farm on Santa Rosa Creek Road. They fell in love with the pristine beauty, emerald green hills and lush valley. As they were leaving for home back in Denver, their friend’s mother pointed out a parcel across the road that was for sale. They drove past the property – just to look. . But, on the flight back home, they couldn’t get the beauty of Cambria’s hills out of their heads. As soon as the plane landed, they got on the phone and arranged to buy the land they’d seen for sale. It was a crazy thing to do! They didn’t have the down payment, let alone the money to pay the mortgage and taxes. Undaunted, a year later the growing family of five sold everything and moved to California. They had reached their five-year goal – right on schedule! . In the beginning both John and Renee worked on and off the farm to make ends meet. By 1979, it hit home that without doing something pretty imaginative – and soon – they would not survive, let alone succeed. As a result they decided to sell Pick-Your-Own berries and vegetables at the farm. It was a success and many people came out to the property, now called Linn’s Fruit Bin. . As the farm grew more prosperous, Renee turned her attention to creating Linn’s Fruit Preserves and Pies which were widely embraced due to their intensely fresh fruit flavor. One flavor became a particular favorite with customers. It was based on a then relatively unknown fruit – the Olallieberry – a cross of a blackberry and a raspberry. This turned out to be the cornerstone of Linn’s success. i Nowadays, along with the popular Olallieberry, the Linns grow a variety of crops at their farm which are made into wonderful entrées and desserts served at the local Linn’s restaurants, bakery and gift shop t s in Cambria, at Central and South Coast Supermarkets and online at linnsfruitbin.com. ’ The Linn’s story continues to unfold as the family and long-time employees cultivate the business that began so many years ago. Loyal customers, from all over the country and the world, who enjoy good food and a warm welcome contribute an invaluable chapter to this evolving story and to the s bright future Linn’s of Cambria is poised to embrace with more innovation, farm-to-table foods and hometown fun. Linn’s Restaurant opened it’s doors for the first time in Cambria in the summer of 1989. We’re proud to celebrate over thirty successful years of providing outstanding service and delicious dining in Cambria.
