ATTIRE GUIDELINES - STEP BY STEP

Dressing like a dancer WILL have a positive impact on how a student feels & learns in class. SBSD sets standards for proper attire in order to encourage the best possible learning environment for all students. With that in mind, please remember that regular street clothes are never appropriate for dance class & HAIR should always be secured neatly off the face for dancers of ALL ages.

INTRO to PRE-DANCE, PRE-DANCE & COMBINATION classes - GIRLS: Any dancewear including & , unitard, jazz pants with dance tops, etc. Pre-Dance students are welcome to wear skirts/tutus, but please NO floor length skirts! Hair must be neatly secured away from face at all times. BOYS: Black bottoms (shorts or long pants that are stretchy and allow for easy movement) with solid color T-shirt.

FULL HOUR BALLET classes - GIRLS: PINK tights, BLACK leotard (any style except no attached skirts) & PINK ballet shoes. Hair MUST be neatly secured away from face and in a BUN. BOYS: BLACK bottoms, BLACK or WHITE top, BLACK ballet shoes. Note: The dress code for Ballet is strictly upheld and without proper attire, including shoes, student may be asked sit for a portion or all of class.

TAP, JAZZ , TECHNIQUE, TURNS & LEAPS, LYRICAL - Any DANCE attire including jazz or athletic style pants, , , tights, etc. Tops should be fitted, not baggy. Short shorts are permitted, but ONLY if tights or biker shorts are worn underneath! Dance shorts (aka Booty shorts) are permitted, but MUST provide FULL coverage - this means your booty must be fully covered at all times! Hair should be neatly secured away from face at all times!

HIP HOP - Baggy sweats/athletic pants or LONG shorts are recommended for HIP HOP. Absolutely NO tights, leotards or short shorts should be worn in Hip Hop class. Baggy tops are permitted in Hip Hop. Please see individual Hip Hop teachers for more information on dressing appropriately for their Hip Hop class.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING - Athletic or dance wear suitable for exercising.

ACRO - GIRLS must wear a leotard - shorts or leggings may be worn on top of leotard OR footless tights underneath the leotard. BOYS must wear athletic shorts and a T-shirt or tank that can be securely tucked in. Hair should be neatly secured away from face at all times and long hair should be in a ponytail! REQUIRED SHOES: Without proper shoes, a student may be restricted from participating in class.
