Former Southern Connecticut State University student-athlete and head women's gymnastics coach Pat Panichas was formally inducted into the Connecticut Gymnastics Hall of Fame on October 9. Panichas served as the head coach at Southern Connecticut State University for 28 seasons and was instrumental in leading the Owls to regional and national prominence. Six Former Owls, Three Teams Selected For Induction Into SCSU Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame

A total of six individuals and three teams have been selected as part of the Southern Connecticut State University Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame’s Class of 2017. The group will be formally honored at an induction event on May 17, 2017. This year’s class includes: Art Kadish (men’s track and field), Michael Marshall (football), Ben Michaelson (men’s swimming), Mike Petke (men’s soccer), Sandy (Hittleman) Myerson (women’s swimming) and Kateema Riettie (women’s track and field). In addition, exemplary teams will now be recognized for the first time as a part of the Hall of Fame. The 1973 men’s gymnastics, 1987 men’s soccer and 2007 women’s basketball teams – all NCAA championship squads – will be inducted as well as a part of this year’s class. “This year’s event will certainly be an exciting one, as we will revive our Alumni Sports Hall of Fame induction after a five-year hiatus,” said Director of Athletics Jay Moran. “All six individuals left an indelible mark during their time at Southern Connecticut. Furthermore, we found it fitting to honor this outstanding trio of national championship teams as a part of this year’s event.”

Two Owls Named To IWLCA Zag Sports Division II Academic Honor Roll Two members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team – Lindsey Luposello and Alexa Picciuto – were selected to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division II Academic Honor Roll. In order to receive this honor, student-athletes must have achieved at least a minimum GPA of 3.5 and maintained at least junior academic standing. The Academic Achievement Awards are a program that recognizes the academic achievements of student-athletes at the Division II level. In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues paying member of the Division II ADA. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
