Heidi Brandis Update Assistance ....... Sophia Soares Designer .......................... Hugh Faulkner, Flametree Creative Design Assistance ........ Gabrielle Clark, DDWA Disclaimer Every effort has been made to ensure that the information contained in this handbook is correct and up-to-date at the time of publishing (November 2020), however, as services change regularly this cannot be guaranteed. This handbook does not contain all of the services available in Western Australia for children on the autism spectrum or endorse any of the services listed. Please contact each organisation listed for more information to identify if their services meet your needs. This handbook is free for families, health and education professionals and may be shared or reproduced. My sincere apologies for any errors or omissions. Front cover: Mia, Daniel & Toffee Brandis 2 Autism Parents’ Handbook Foreword It is a pleasure to write the Foreword for this little gem of a handbook. We yearn to be parents and to raise happy and healthy children. When we have a child with ill-health or disability, we go through a range of grieving reactions. Sometimes those reactions are severe or prolonged and are cyclical. We may feel denial, sadness, anger and loneliness. Because children on the autism spectrum have difficulties with communication, socialisation and behaviour, families often feel especially stigmatised and crave for more understanding from society.

  • February Bulletin
BULLETIN 02/19 Field of Light: Avenue of Honour display on Mt Clarence Albany. Welcome to the first Bulletin for 2019! 2019 is going to be a great year if the HTAWA planning day is anything to go by. We have a few new members on your hard working team and I would like to welcome them aboard and say thank you, not only to them but our existing team members for volunteering to help support History teachers and History education across WA. The HTAWA team has a wealth of experience and knowledge and I know we are going to have a fruitful year. This year members can continue to attend predominately free (or cheap) professional learning, have access to advice and support and with our upcoming new website even better access to information and resources. This term we have our state conference and I actively encourage ALL members to attend - where else to you get to hang out with the so many awesome HASS and History teachers in one place, get access to quality professional learning and ideas and develop your networks and professional knowledge? I also want to remind people that all HASS teachers are History teachers, even if they don’t teach upper school History, this is why we have developed a program that supports HASS teachers across the board. Remember when you put in your PL submission to school for the conference, we have sessions addressing literacy, the Aboriginal Cultural Framework, ICT and using and understanding data (not to mention all the very cool sessions on supporting your students to engage and develop the skills that will help maximise their learning outcomes).
