Santos Summer is about to end, but that should not discourage you to have a great getaway vacation. It’s time to reward yourself with some fun and relaxation during the Labor Day long weekend! Here are 10 places where you can spend the long weekend. BAGUIO The summer capital of the Philippines is a perennial favourite tourist destination because of its cool climate and majestic view of the pine tree-filled mountain ranges. Although Baguio is a small city, there are lots of activities that you can enjoy during your stay. Stroll around Burnham Park and do a boating or biking experience with your families and friends. If you love art and culture, you can visit BenCab Museum or Tam-Awan Village. For nature sight-seeing, the best place to go is Mines View Park, where you can also have a photo op with colourful horses and the famous Saint Bernard dogs. TAGAYTAY If you find Baguio too far, but you still want to spend your vacation in a cool setting, Tagaytay is the best place for you. Just about 2 to 3 hours drive away from Manila, you can enjoy the cool breeze and nice overlooking view of the Taal Lake. In addition, there are many good restaurants around the city of Tagaytay that you can explore. For local food, never miss out bulalo and tawilis, which is a local fish exclusively found in Taal Lake. Santos ANTIPOLO The first thing that comes to your mind when you hear Antipolo is a pilgrimage to the famous church called Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Shrine. Aside from this, Antipolo has become a foodie’s hub, thanks to its variety of restaurants and cafes. Pinto Art Museum is also a famous tourist destination in Antipolo because of its unique artworks displayed such as paintings, sculptures, and other media. Santos rock formations. MANILA In case you don’t want to travel out of the city, Manila itself offers lots of activities that you can enjoy on the long weekend. Revisit Philippine history and culture by going to the National Museum or exploring explore the historical Intramuros. Nearby is Binondo, where you can taste authentic and really affordable Chinese food. If you’re looking for something more modernised in art and culture, Bonifacio Global City is a great place for that. BGC is full of fancy restaurants, malls and cultural art parks in which you can enjoy taking photos. Splash your way through the waves and relax with a refreshing summer drink. If you are into hiking, conquer the Nasugbu mountains such as Mt. Talamitam, Mt. Batulao, and Mt. Pico de Loro. BOHOL The island of Bohol is known as the home of the Chocolate Hills and is located in the Visayas region. Consisting of amazing shores and white sand beaches, it is one of the favorite summer destinations for tourists. Aside from its beautiful beaches, there are many attractions to go to in Bohol, such as the Chocolate Hills, man-made forests, caves, old churches, and nature parks. You can also see the smallest monkey in the world called the tarsier, which can be found only in Bohol. Near Bohol is the island of Panglao, where you can also see beautiful white sand beaches. This might be one of the best destinations for the Labor Day weekend because it has a lot to offer for tourists. INTRODUCTION The Coronavirus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has compelled the Philippine government to enforce lockdown measures to minimize, if not stop the spread of the disease. In addition, stay-at-home directives, physical distancing protocols, and prohibition on mass gatherings were also adopted as safety precautions. During the period of enhanced community quarantine and the modified enhanced community quarantine, non-essential businesses were compelled to close shops while some essential businesses were allowed to operate. Among the businesses that are considered non- essential are those that belong to the amusement and entertainment sector such as movie theaters, malls, clubs, etc. This study assesses the impact of COVID-19 on amusement tax revenue of the local government units (LGUs) and the impact of the “new normal” on their ability to contribute to the needed revenues of the LGUs. The study also presents the imposition of amusement taxes in other jurisdictions. II. AMUSEMENT TAXES IN THE PHILIPPINES There are two types of amusement taxes in the Philippines. The first is imposed by the National Government through the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) based on Section 125 of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) of 1997, as amended. The second type is the local amusement tax imposed by the province, city, and municipality within Metropolitan Manila Area (MMA) as provided under Section 140 of the Local Government Code (LGC) of 1991, as amended.
