Sydney, Australia - Under total media embargo until 4.00pm EST, Monday, 27 June, 2011 --------------------------------------------------------------- 22 July, 2011 will be a memorable day for Cold Chisel fans. All of the band's music has been remastered so the sound quality is better than ever and state of the art CD packaging has restored the original LP visuals. In addition, the releases will also include previously unseen photos and liner notes. Most importantly, these releases will unleash a motherlode of previously unreleased sound and vision by this classic Australian band. Cold Chisel is without peer in the history of Australian music. It’s therefore only fitting that this reissue program is equally peerless. The digital release includes 56 Cold Chisel recordings that have either never been released or have not been available for more than 15 years. These include: A “Live At -

Gender on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart, 1996-2016
Watson. Manuscript. Gender on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart, 1996-2016 Jada Watson (University of Ottawa) [email protected] In May 2015 radio consultant Keith Hill revealed that country radio programmers have strict rules on how many female artists can be included in airplay rotation. Referring to females as the “tomatoes” of the country salad, Hill’s remarks have sparked debate about gender-representation in country music. This paper examines gender-related trends on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart between 1996 and 2016, aiming to investigate how female artists have performed on the charts over this two-decade period. Analyzing long-term trends in frequency distribution, this study uses statistical results to unpack assertions made about women’s marginal status in country music. Keywords: country music; gender; Billboard charts; radio Introduction: #TomatoGate In a 26 May 2015 interview with Russ Penuell of Country AirCheck on the subject of country radio scheduling and ratings, consultant Keith Hill spoke candidly about how female artists factor into the format’s airplay rotation: If you want to make ratings in Country radio, take females out. The reason is mainstream Country radio generates more quarter hours from female listeners at a rate of 70 to 75%, and women like male artists. I’m basing that not only on music tests from over the years, but more than 300 client radio stations. The expectation is we’re principally a male format with a smaller female component. I’ve got about 40 music databases in front of me and the percentage of females in the one with the most is 19%. -

Psaudio Copper
Issue 133 MARCH 29TH, 2021 Copper has a new look! So does the rest of the PS Audio website, the result of countless hours of hard work. There's more functionality and easier access to articles, and additional developments will come. There will be some temporary glitches and some tweaks required – like high-end audio systems, magazines sometimes need tweaking too – but overall, we're excited to provide a better and more enjoyable reading experience. I now hand over the column to our esteemed Larry Schenbeck: Dear Copper Colleagues and Readers, Frank has graciously asked if I’d like to share a word or two about my intention to stop writing Too Much Tchaikovsky. So: thanks to everyone who read and enjoyed it – I wrote it for you. If you added comments occasionally, you made my day. I also wrote the column so I could keep learning, especially about emerging creatives and performers in classical music. Getting the chance to stumble upon something new and nourishing had sustained me in the academic world – it certainly wasn’t the money! – and I was grateful to continue that in Copper. So why stop? Because, as they say, there is a season. It has become considerably harder for me to stumble upon truly fresh sounds and then write freshly thereon. Here I am tempted to quote Douglas Adams or Satchel Paige, who both knew how to deliver an exit line. But I’ll just say (since Frank has promised to leave the light on), goodbye for now. The door is open, Larry, and we can’t thank you enough for your wonderful contributions. -

A Dub Approach to Defining a Caribbean Literary Identity in the Contemporary Diaspora
ABSTRACT Title of Document: ON THE B-SIDE: A DUB APPROACH TO DEFINING A CARIBBEAN LITERARY IDENTITY IN THE CONTEMPORARY DIASPORA Isis N. Semaj, Doctor of Philosophy, 2013 Directed by: Professor Merle Collins, Department of English Drawing from Jamaica’s socio-politically distinct dub musical genre, “On the B: Side” argues that the literary aesthetics of Caribbean migration and history can be analyzed according to a model of dub. As I define it, the dub aesthetic is marked by erasures, repairs, re-invention, and re-creation. It is thematically and formally captured in migration and represented in the experience of dislocation and home(lessness), memory and the layering of time, political silences and cultural amplification, and the distinct social climate associated with the 21st century push toward celebrating diasporic communities and marking progress through globalization. Given these contemporary circumstances, the Caribbean subject at home locally and at home in the diaspora necessarily demonstrates an acute investment in memory recall and a strong motivation toward building cultural posterity. This dissertation, therefore, explicates how the more recent literature reaches back in new ways that facilitate the survival of a uniquely Caribbean literary identity into the future. This dissertation analyzes works by Ramabai Espinet, Edwidge Danticat, and Anthony Winkler to highlight the ways in which relocation and dislocation intersect for the Caribbean subject. Additionally, I examine works by Marion Patrick Jones and Diana McCaulay, who represent another category of unbelonging and homelessness in the Caribbean that is read in the middle class’s exclusion from national and regional discourse on authenticity. Interrogating the space of Caribbean fiction, the dissertation moves through the deconstruction and reinvention of migration to arrive at the diasporic intersections of erasure, rupture, and repair. -

Georg Frey (Gutachter) Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Michael Hanisch (Gutachter) Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Helmut Seidel (weiteres Mitglied) Meng Qin (akademischer Beisitz) Abstract: Most modern technological systems rely on complicated control technologies, computer technologies, and networked communication technologies. Their dynamic behavior is intricate due to the concurrence and conflict of various signals. Such complex systems are studied as discrete event control systems (DECSs), while the detailed continuous variable processes are abstracted. Dynamic reconfigurable systems are the trend of all future technological systems, such as flight control systems, vehicle electronic systems, and manufacturing systems. In order to meet control requirements continuously, such a dynamic reconfigurable system is able to actively adjust its configuration at runtime by modifying its components, connections among components and data, while changes are detected in the internal/external execution environment. Model based design methodologies attract wide attention since they can detect system defect earlier, increase system reliability, and decrease time and cost on system development. An accurate, compact, and easy formal model to be analyzed is the first step of model based design methods.
