PACK provides systematic interventions for individual academic and behavioral success. Students will earn privileges as they progress through PHS by demonstrating increased maturity in academic, behavioral and social responsibilities. All students are responsible for PACK period attendance and closed campus: Juniors and seniors may earn off campus privileges as well as an extended lunch for academic and behavioral success. Sophomores may earn an extended lunch, on-campus. Freshmen may earn 1 day per week of extended lunch, on-campus, during their advisory period. To earn an extended lunch, students must have: o All grades C or better o Fewer than 4 tardies in the current, designated 3 week period (excused tardies count toward the tardy total) o No behavior referrals Student Identification Badges: Students will be expected to have an ID badge at all times due to safety and earned privileges system Badges will be color coded: Tier 1 = blue, Tier 2 = yellow, Tier 3 = maroon o Tier 1: Closed campus, Advisory (freshmen and any upperclassmen who have earned fewer than 6 credits) o Tier 2: Closed campus, extended lunch privileges possible (sophomores and upperclassmen who have earned 6 or more credits but < 13) o Tier 3: Off campus privileges possible (juniors and seniors who have earned 13 or more credits) Attendance: There is a direct correlation between attendance and academic achievement Tardies – Excused tardies count toward the total tardy count o 4 tardies within a designated 3 week period results in Campus Clean-up for 3 days o 8 tardies within 3 weeks results in Campus Clean-up for the remainder of the 3 week period of time o 12 tardies within 3 weeks results in a major office referral Absences o 4 unexcused absences during semester 1 (quarter 1 and 2) or semester 2 (quarter 3 and 4) results in a letter home and parent meeting o 10 unexcused absences in 1st or 2nd semester results in letter home and parent meeting, with the possibility of a truancy referral . Excessive unexcused absences will result in a truancy referral and possible court appearance, and may also result in a involuntary withdrawal or revoked transfer. o Students missing Office Hours or Advisory will serve Campus Clean-up Advisory: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday Freshman Advisory o All freshmen will be assigned an advisory during PACK period. Students can earn .25 elective credit each semester for advisory if they attend regularly and participate. Academic: Freshman Study Hall o Palisade High School will be offering a study hall for select freshmen, as identified by interest and need. This is an opportunity to empower our freshmen students so that they can be successful in high school. The focus of the study hall will be upon organizational skills, timely completion of assignments, study skills and progress monitoring. Freshmen Study Hall will also serve as an access point to pull students into a Math or English Language Arts tutoring center as needed. Students will receive targeted support based on needs identified in these core classes. A student may work in the Math or English Language Arts tutoring center for several days until his/her goals are met. Freshman Office Hours o Required for all 9th graders during advisory who are not maintaining C’s or better (Thursday, Friday) Mandatory Office Hours o Required for all 10th, 11th, and 12th graders during PACK time who are not maintaining C’s or better (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) Academic interventions o After school study lab/homework tutoring in the Student Center (Monday – Thursday 3:00 - 4:00 rm 174DR) o Saturday School (Saturday 8:00 – 11:00, Room 174DR) o Extended Learning o Students may earn the opportunity to raise a grade at the end of a term, which is at the discretion of the teacher. Bulldog Bucks PHS staff members may give a student a Bulldog Buck for demonstrating Perseverance, positive Attitude, high Character, or Knowledge. The student brings the Bulldog Buck to the office to fill out a postcard to be sent home for further recognition. Weekly and quarterly will be held to award prizes and further celebrate the students.     Mesa County Valley School District 51 Recognition: Kindness is Contagious Campaign Board of Education Resolution: 17/18: 59 Presented February 20, 2018 The Board would like to invite the Kindness is Contagious group to come to the front of the room. Earlier this month, several District 51 high school students worked together to launch the Kindness is Contagious Campaign. The campaign aimed to help the Grand Valley community focus on positivity and kindness, while also increasing awareness about mental health. Students from each high school formed a lead committee to plan a variety of school and community events throughout the week. The campaign was entirely student led and included a day where student councils went to neighboring schools to pass out donuts, a compliment tree, and a day to wear green for mental health awareness. They also coordinated with local coffee shops to invite the community to buy a “suspended coffee” which would be given to someone who needed a pick-me-up and an event where the community was invited to come write down goals or encouragement on “Bucket List Boards” downtown. The students also coordinated to have Austin Eubanks, an international speaker and Columbine shooting survivor, come to Grand Junction to tell his story. The students also spearheaded the promotional campaign, which included flyers, stickers, videos, social media posts, and more. Recognition for Stewart Collins, State Champion for the Achieve 3000 Make the Break Contest [Resolution: 17/18: 67] Over the winter break, students at Dual Immersion Academy had the option to continue their literacy learning using a tool called Achieve3000. Their participation earned them a spot in the running for the national “Make the Break” holiday contest, in which one winner from every state would be selected. Stewart Collins, a fifth grader at DIA, used the online tool to test and grow his abilities in reading comprehension. In February, he was selected in a drawing from thousands of students and was the only winner in Colorado. By using Achieve3000 to maintain the progress he made over the first semester, Stewart won a pair of Beats Tour2 headphones. The Board and Superintendent Haptonstall congratulated Stewart for his hard work. D-2. You need not be an alumna or alumnus of Colorado Mesa University to make a nomination. The nominated alumna or alumnus may be living or deceased. Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented during the Homecoming celebrations fall of 2018. Deadline for nominations is March 30, 2018. Nominations not selected will be considered for two additional years. Nominations may be re-submitted after the third year. Additional supporting documents will be accepted prior to the nomination deadline for that year. Current Alumni Association Board Members are not eligible to receive the award.
