Best Parks in Barcelona "Best Parks in Barcelona" Créé par: Cityseeker 8 Emplacements marqués Parc de la Ciutadella "Nature, Culture, & Artistry Meet" Parc de la Ciutadella is a lush attraction nestled in the Old City, known locally as the Ciutat Vella. The park was designed by Josep Fontserè and his then-unknown assistant Antoni Gaudí, who went on to pioneer Catalan modernism with such masterpieces as the Basilica de la Sagrada Família. Although it no longer bears the distinction of being the only green space by Bernard Gagnon in the city, the park remains an important respite for city dwelling nature lovers, as well as those looking to experience the essence of Barcelona. Within the park are several attractions for the whole family, among them the Barcelona Zoo and Catalan Parliament. Weave through the verdant park and its many cultural offerings, taking time to relax by the lake as the ornate fountain creates a peaceful melody. +34 638 23 71 15 www.barcelonaturisme.com/wv3/en Passeig de Picasso, Barcelone /page/380/parc-de-la-ciutadella.html Joan Brossa Gardens "Iconic Hilltop Park" Few parks in Barcelona offer such sweeping views of the beautiful city from a green hilltop. Like most of the parks on Montjuïc hill which have a name from a local benefactor, this one is named after a renowned Catalan poet. The park offers picnic spots, playgrounds and other facilities to entertain yourself. There are also statues on the grounds that by Isiwal commemorate other famous personalities such as Charlie Chaplin and flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya. Avinguda de Miramar 32-54, Barcelone Joan Miró Park "Tribute to Joan Miró" Joan Miró was not only a great painter but also a sculptor and ceramicist. • Catalan Modernism and Vexillology
Catalan Modernism and Vexillology Sebastià Herreros i Agüí Abstract Modernism (Modern Style, Modernisme, or Art Nouveau) was an artistic and cultural movement which flourished in Europe roughly between 1880 and 1915. In Catalonia, because this era coincided with movements for autonomy and independence and the growth of a rich bourgeoisie, Modernism developed in a special way. Differing from the form in other countries, in Catalonia works in the Modern Style included many symbolic elements reflecting the Catalan nationalism of their creators. This paper, which follows Wladyslaw Serwatowski’s 20 ICV presentation on Antoni Gaudí as a vexillographer, studies other Modernist artists and their flag-related works. Lluís Domènech i Montaner, Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Josep Llimona, Miquel Blay, Alexandre de Riquer, Apel·les Mestres, Antoni Maria Gallissà, Joan Maragall, Josep Maria Jujol, Lluís Masriera, Lluís Millet, and others were masters in many artistic disciplines: Architecture, Sculpture, Jewelry, Poetry, Music, Sigillography, Bookplates, etc. and also, perhaps unconsciously, Vexillography. This paper highlights several flags and banners of unusual quality and national significance: Unió Catalanista, Sant Lluc, CADCI, Catalans d’Amèrica, Ripoll, Orfeó Català, Esbart Català de Dansaires, and some gonfalons and flags from choral groups and sometent (armed civil groups). Over the last decade the capital of Catalonia has been the star of European urban tourism, as visitor figures have doubled. With the impetus from the 1992 Olympic Games it entered the world club of cities and became a global reference for international urban tourism. With sixteen million overnight stays per year and around seven million tourists a year, Barcelona has been the great ‘discovery’ for holiday tourism in recent years. This is an acknowledgement that now complements the traditional activity of business tourism in the city, which itself continues to grow in size and prestige. The Catalan capital has emerged as a major tourism destination. People from around the world choose it for their holidays and weekend breaks, due to its unique characteristics, as it brings together an intense and varied number of enticements and attractions in a city of human dimensions.

  • Memory of the City – Layers of the City. Spanish Examples
DOI: 10.4467/2353737XCT.16.180.5791 MATEUSZ GYURKOVICH* MEMORY OF THE CITY – LAYERS OF THE CITY. SPANISH EXAMPLES PAMIĘĆ MIASTA – WARSTWY MIASTA. PRZYKŁADY HISZPAŃSKIE Abstract Some cities have incessantly teemed with life for centuries, even for millennia. Currently, the oldest inhabited urban settlements are deemed to be those located in the Old World. Their contemporary layouts are very different to how they were originally, this is very often hidden in relics which attest to the older layers. Searching for such layers is a fascinating task. Sometimes, they can be found in the layout of public spaces, or in the architecture of historic buildings and complexes. Others remain deeply concealed underneath the surface of streets, squares, pavements, and parks. Most frequently, the exposure of larger parts of the remains of old architectural and urban structures is not easy due to the need to secure efficient functioning of the contemporary urban tissue. Architectural and archaeological reserves established especially in Europe, help to restore the lost memory of the city by exhibiting its historic layers. Keywords: city lifespan, urban tissue, archaeological and architectural reserve, excavations, museum Streszczenie Niektóre miasta nieprzerwanie tętnią życiem od wieków, nawet od tysiącleci.

  • Petició Ciutadana Per a La Memòria Històrica I La Senyalització Dels Barris De Barraques De Barcelona
