COMMUTING TO CAMPUS 2021 Commuting by PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Public transport is one of the best ways to get to and from UCD daily. The campus is well served by bus routes and has bus links to Sydney Parade Dart Station and Dundrum Station.

Dublin Bus Services Over 20 bus routes serve the Belfield campus, linking UCD to the city centre and suburban areas. The Belfield campus is served by the 39a bus, which runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new 155 and 175 routes also provide great connectivity from north and south west . The 11 and 142 buses stop on the side of campus and serve areas including and . A number of express buses additionally serve UCD offering fast direct routes from suburban areas and the greater Dublin region. RTPI screens are located at the bus stops and on campus outside the James Joyce Library & Student Centre, inside the Science and Newman Buildings and on the Blackrock Campus.

DART, Luas & Rail A shuttle bus from Belfield to the nearest DART station at Sydney Parade operates during peak morning and evening hours throughout term and the 175 bus departs from campus every 30 minutes and connects to the Luas stop at Dundrum. Heuston Station is directly linked to campus via the 145 bus departing directly from the station. Connolly Station is served by many routes to campus which pass through the city centre. Visit www.ucdestates.ie/commuting for more information.

Commuter & Private Coaches Bus Éireann and Go-Ahead Ireland operate nationwide bus services, with most major areas having a regular link to Dublin. The majority of services terminate in Busáras which is a short walk to O’Connell Street for connecting buses to UCD. Several commuter coach services directly serve the Belfield campus during the peak morning and evening hours. Visit www.buseireann.ie and www.goaheadireland.ie for more information. Several private coaches serve campus every day from regional and commuter towns. Visit www.ucd.ie/commuting to view more information on commuting by bus.

Bus Stops on Campus 1. The main terminus opposite Glenomena Residences 2. At the rear of the Sports Centre

There are several other stops located right outside the campus at the N11/R138 entrance and on Roebuck Road, Fosters Avenue and Clonskeagh Roads. See overleaf for more information or use the TFI app.

Commuting by BIKE AND ON FOOT

Cycling or walking is without doubt the greenest way to reach campus and has major health benefits! UCD has five dedicated pedestrian and cyclist entrances which motorists cannot enter located at: Roebuck Castle, Roebuck Road, Belfield Office Park, Greenfield Park and UCD Nova/R138 (under construction).

The Sports Centre roundabout, roads and paths in the area have also been recently upgraded to a pedestrian and cyclist friendly layout, with enhanced speed reduction measures in place for motorists.

Outside the campus in the surrounding areas, many cycling schemes have been implemented improving safety & segregation for cyclists on the road.

UCD has over 5,000 bike parking spaces, many covered with shelters and located in close proximity to buildings. Changing and shower facilities are available in many buildings throughout campus. Five public bike repair stations with tools and pumps are also located throughout campus and may help in a tight spot! UCD also provides a free of charge secure bike parking area equipped with fencing, CCTV and quality bike parking which is accessed via UCard. Just visit Campus Services with your staff/student UCard to sign up. Visit www.ucdestates.ie/ commuting/cycling for more information.

Commuting by CAR AND PARKING

Many staff and students travel long distances or have other commitments where public transport and cycling are not viable options. Drive to campus only if other options are not possible. During daily peak periods demand for parking spaces exceeds supply. Motorists parking illegally or without a valid parking permit may be fined, clamped or towed.

Permit Car Parking UCD operates a paid permit parking system for staff and students from 08:00-17:00, Monday-Friday, September to May inclusive. A parking permit allows the holder to search for a parking space in permit car parks. It is not a guarantee of a parking space. From September 2021 the price of a parking permit will be c100. Students living on campus are not entitled to purchase a parking permit.

Pay & Display and Premium Pay & Display Parking A number of parking spaces are designated as pay and display and premium spaces. These spaces have respective charges of c1 per hour and c2.40 per hour during the period 08:00-17:00, Monday to Friday, all year round. Parking permits are not valid in pay & display and premium parking areas and the relevant fee must be paid.

Traffic Restrictions & Campus Speed Limits Traffic barriers are in place to prevent through vehicular traffic using the campus as a short cut and to make the campus safer for pedestrians and cyclists, who can still freely pass the barriers when closed. Barriers are closed 07:00-10:30 and 16:00-19:30, Monday-Friday all year round (excluding bank holidays). A speed limit of 30km/h is in place on campus. COMMUTE with CONFIDENCE
