Last day for Breakfast & Milk Programs Friday, June 17th will be the last day for our milk and breakfast programs. Leftover money on milk cards will be refunded to parents and will be included in the student’s report card envelope. Students owing money for the milk program will have a notice sent home with them by June 21st. We ask that monies owing be paid to the school by the last day of school, June 29th. Please keep in mind that, as a school, we are a non-profit organization and we cannot absorb the cost of unpaid balances. The breakfast program will also finish on Friday, June 17th and will not be accessible after that date. As always, if you have any questions and/or comments, please contact the office.

Ticks and Lyme Disease Awareness At this time of year it’s important to be aware and careful in areas where there may be blacklegged ticks (also called deer ticks), which can carry the germ that causes Lyme disease. Please visit our school website for important Public Health information on protecting against ticks and Lyme disease. Additional information and videos can also be found at www.novascotia.ca/hpp/cdpc/lyme.asp

Grade 5 Parent Info Session at PRMS Pine Ridge Middle School will be hosting a parent information session in the evening on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:00pm for parents of current Grade 5 students starting at PRMS in September 2016.

Class Placements for 2016-2017 School Year In preparation for next year, we are looking at composing class lists. Considerations for class groups include balancing numbers in each class, equalizing the number of boys and girls, taking into account students’ needs and group dynamics. If you have information about the educational needs of your child(ren) of which we might not be aware and which you feel should be taken into account as we make these decisions, please express your thoughts in writing and submit your letter to the office by Friday, June 10th. While we cannot make guarantees, we will do our best to accommodate requests.

DRES Yearbook There will be a full colored, 60+ page yearbook available again this year. The cost is $15 per book. A order form was sent home a couple weeks ago and the order due date is Friday, June 3rd. Cheques are to be made payable to Dwight Ross Elementary School. Thank you for your support!

PTA News Congratulations to Mrs. Cameron/Albert’s class for winning Crazy Hair Day with 95% participation! Our last Spirit Day is June 3rd and it is called Shades Day. We will be looking for all shapes, sizes and colors of sunglasses on that day! Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the feedback form regarding the hot lunches. There were a variety of suggestions regarding menu items and it looks like many families would like to see this lunch option offered more frequently. This is definitely something that we would like to be able to offer again next year. I would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to the many volunteers who helped at the lunches throughout the year – we could have not done it without you! We will not be having any PTA Hot Lunches in June but we will still be offering free hot dogs to students on Field Day (June 22nd). The teachers will be placing the orders with the PTA (there is a limit of two (2) hot dogs per person). However, please remember to send in your child’s regular lunch if they do not like hot dogs! I would like to take this opportunity to truly thank all the students, staff and DRES families for another great year. Hopefully every student has taken home some fond memories of this school year! Enjoy your summer!
