Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. One of the alternatives to mitigate this reduction, is the diversification of the fishery and aquaculture activity, through value creation. To do this, there is a great number of species to cultivate and that have not been seized due to the lack of interest or knowledge, in addition that the fishery communities have not been provided with the sufficient technology to allow its

F., Mexico ABSTRACT: Rhizocephalan parasitism is one of the most important biotic factors affecting commer- cially valuable crab species in families such as Portunidae and Lithodidae. In addition to the long term and permanent effects of this parasitism on the hosts (e.g. sterilization, cessation of growth), other functional problems may arise due to the considerable size of the parasite and to its particular position inside and outside of the host. In this study, experiments with the Mexican blue crab Calli- nectes rathbunae parasitized by the rhizocephalan barnacle Loxothylacus texanus were conducted in the laboratory to test whether the parasite affects the host’s oxygen consumption rate under chang- ing salinity conditions. A total of 83 crabs (49 parasitized and 34 controls), all initially acclimated to a salinity of 5, were used for metabolic rate measurements over sequential 24 h periods at salinities of 5, 15 and 25. During this 3 d period, oxygen consumption of individual crabs was measured 5 times per day.

The Chiropteran fauna contributes significantly to the ecological dynamics of tropical forests and are excellent indicators of the state of conservation. The Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz has suffered severe habitat degradation and forest fragmentation in the last four decades, mostly due to anthropogenic activities. The main objective of the present study was to describe in terms of species richness, feeding guild, biomass, and dominance, the little known bat community of the Parque de Flora and Fauna Silvestre Tropical (PAFFASIT) in the municipality of Catemaco, Veracruz. We expected that after nearly 30 years of ambient protection that this study site would maintain its functional diversity, as well as complexity in the bat understory assemblage.

  • SUMMARY Morphological Diversity of Collections of Chile Manzano
SUMMARY Morphological diversity of collections of Chile Manzano (Capsicum pubescens Ruíz & Pav.) Of the state of Veracruz, Mexico The Manzano hot pepper (Capsicum pubescens Ruíz and Pav.) is cultivated mainly in temperate regions, has genetic diversity created by the genetic flow of the farmers, that can be used in programs of genetic improvement. Therefore, the objective of the present research work was to evaluate the agronomic behavior of 28 Manzano hot pepper collections in three locations in the high Mountains region of the state of Veracruz. The trials were established in the municipalities of Tepatlaxco (A), Coscomatepec (B) and Tequila (C) during the months of January to December 2018. Agronomic management was homogeneous in all three environments. Bioclimatic variables were recorded; temperature and rainfall; as well as plant and fruit morphological traits such as: plant height (cm), fruit performance (FPER kg ha-1), fruit length (FLEN mm), fruit width (FWID mm), number of locules (NLOC), pericarp thickness (PTHI mm), placenta length, number of seeds, number of buttons, flowers and fruits. The results indicated that the temperature was similar in the three environments with a small variation in A3 at the end of the production cycle; however, they remain in the optimal ranges for crop development. The total rainfall in A1, A2 and A3 was 1946, 2015 and 2094.8 mm, respectively. The MEXUVTE1 collection was the highest in A1 and A2; however, for A3 the MEXUVBV1 and MEXUVCU1 collections were the highest.
