PORT OF NAANTALI PORT AND TERMINAL HANDBOOK N 60◦ 27´N E 22◦ 03´E 2 SERVING TRADE AND INDUSTRY The Port of Naantali serves the trade in a wide range of the hin- terland as well as the industry close to the port. Industrial en- terprises and factories (e.g. oil refinery, lubricant factory, coal power plant, betaine factory, grain silos etc.) operating in the immediate vicinity of the harbour generate large material flows. Easy ice condition in wintertime and one of the deepest fairways and quays in Finland, up to 15,3 m, enable Aframax tankers and Panamax size bulk carriers loading and/or discharging regularly at the port. Moreover, the short sea voyage and frequent ferry connection to Sweden make Naantali the most important cargo hub between Finland and Scandinavia. Partly, for these reasons, Naantali is today 4th largest universal cargo port in Finland. The total annual traffic to and from the port ( transported via the port`s quays and/or water areas) is ca. 6,8 million tons, of which 80 % is foreign traffic. The main volumes come from liquid and dry bulk materials and ferry goods. The Port of Naantali is one of the busiest cargo ports in Finland with ca. 2000 annual number of vessel calls. VALUE ADDED SERVICES Naantali is a long time known as a significant centre for dry bulk goods operations, thanks to excellent storage facilities and all- round value-added services. Naantali is one of the largest ports e.g. for coal, grain and cement cargo handling in Finland. The port handles and stores also fertilizers, feed stuff and other agri- bulk materials as well as different type of recycling materials. -

A considerable proportion of Finnish children and youth also participate in the activities of football clubs. Financing a club has become a challenging task and several kinds of sources are needed. After the differentiation of sport in Finland, voluntary work has had a key role in sport club operation. This research focuses on financing a youth football club in Finland. The research is a case study concentrated on Mikkelin Kissat C-juniors (ages 14 - 15) team as an example. Mikkelin Kissat represents a typical Finnish football club with a major focus on junior operation. In general, it is a great example of how junior clubs operate in Finland and this makes the club a good target for this study. How a junior football club finance its operation and how does the club spend the income it gets are the main points studied. Another issue is to discuss about the idea of professionalizing voluntary work done in sport clubs. It has been speculated that sports clubs need more full-time workers to meet the increasing demand for quality of the operation of the clubs. -

September 2008 Keywords: catering services in municipalities, public foodstuff procurement, tendering, local food, organic, Portaat Luomuun, EkoCentria, Lähikeittiöhanke, telephone survey This report is the first published report on the use of local food in almost all of Finland’s municipalities, and covers the use of local food products in public municipality catering fairly comprehensively. The report presents the results of a telephone survey for the catering managers of Continental Finland. The survey was a part of EkoCentria’s Sustainable Catering in Public Services Project in 2007 and was carried out by Local Food Advisors. The number of participating municipalities totals to 366, which is 92 % of municipalities in Continental Finland. The first hypothesis of the report was that the ratio of local products acquired is larger when the procurer is not part of any procurement circle. The second hypothesis was that preparing food from local ingredients is easier for kitchens that prepare fewer meals. Interviews were used to learn which foodstuffs in public catering come from local suppliers, are they put out to tenders separately and by whom, or are they acquired without tendering. The report takes a look at factors that enable and factors that reduce the usage of local food items. In addition, a search for kitchens that have cut their bulk purchases in order to favor local foodstuffs was conducted. -

Two of the seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Finland are located in Rauma. One of the sites, Old Rauma, is an extensive, uniform wood-built town district dating back to the Middle Ages. Old Rauma is a living town district where historical heritage lives on in perfect harmony with modern commerce and local residents. You’ll find an ample range of high-quality cafes, restaurants and charming little boutiques there. The idyllic ambience is complemented by museums, lovely gardens, the marketplace and the impressive medieval Church of the Holy Cross. The other World Heritage Site is the Bronze Age cairn cemetery of Sammallahdenmäki. The stone structures at Sammallahdenmäki – Bronze Age burial cairns built on rocks – bear evidence to the early settlement. Colourful maritime past Seafaring has for centuries brought an international flavour to the life of this small town. Rauma has always earned its livelihood from the sea and in addition has a long tradition of overseas trade, thereby adopting influences from faraway lands. The three tourist islands of Rauma – the Kylmäpihlaja lighthouse island, the Kuuskajaskari fortress island and the Reksaari nature island – are located just off the coast of the town. The archipelago of Rauma belongs to the Bothnian Sea National Park and provides a splendid, memorable setting for those who love the sea and the great outdoors. -

The Finnish Archipelago Coast from AD 500 to 1550 – a Zone of Interaction Tapani Tuovinen [email protected], [email protected] Abstract New archaeological, historical, paleoecological and onomastic evidence indicates Iron Age settle- ment on the archipelago coast of Uusimaa, a region which traditionally has been perceived as deso- lated during the Iron Age. This view, which has pertained to large parts of the archipelago coast, can be traced back to the early period of field archaeology, when an initial conception of the archipelago as an unsettled and insignificant territory took form. Over time, the idea has been rendered possible by the unbalance between the archaeological evidence and the written sources, the predominant trend of archaeology towards the mainland (the terrestrical paradigm), and the history culture of wilderness. Wilderness was an important platform for the nationalistic constructions of early Finnishness. The thesis about the Iron Age archipelago as an untouched no-man’s land was a history politically convenient tacit agreement between the Finnish- and the Swedish-minded scholars. It can be seen as a part of the post-war demand for a common view of history. A geographical model of the present-day archaeological, historical and palaeoecological evi- dence of the archipelago coast is suggested.
