Diez Datos Para Recordar a Marie Fredriksson, La Voz De Roxette Que Se Apaga Diez datos para recordar a Marie Fredriksson, la voz de Roxette que se apaga El reciente fallecimiento de la cantante sueca y voz del dúo Roxette, Marie Fredriksson, impacta especialmente de lleno en la generación “sub 50” que entre 1989 y 1995 disfruta de la avalancha de hits que la banda regala al mundo. Su atractiva voz y su clásico pelo corto constituyen parte de su impronta personal, con la que colabora a la creación de verdaderos temas clásicos como “The Look”, “Joyride” y “Dangerous”, entre muchos otros. Aunque, sin duda, su mayor característica se encuentra en el valor con el que encara la lucha contra el cáncer (tumor cerebral), enfermedad con la que logra lidiar durante casi dos décadas. Su compañero de ruta en la reconocida banda pop, el multi-instrumentista Per Gessle, deja claro su afecto por la cantante y compositora en un comunicado: «No hace tanto que pasábamos días y noches en mi pequeño apartamento de Halmstad, escuchando música que nos encantaba, compartiendo sueños imposibles. ¡Y qué sueño fantástico llegamos a compartir! Gracias, Marie, gracias por todo. Fuiste una música realmente única, una cantante de un nivel que quizá no volvamos a experimentar. Pintaste mis canciones en blanco y negro con los colores más maravillosos». Como sencillo homenaje, compartimos un pequeño decálogo que permite hacerse de una idea general en torno a Fredriksson, una voz que forma parte de la banda sonora en la vida de millones de personas. 1.- El nombre completo de Marie es Gun-Marie Fredriksson y nace en la localidad sueca de Ossjo, el 30 de mayo de 1958. En mayo de 1994 contrae matrimonio con el también cantante escandinavo Mikael Bolyos, con quien tiene dos hijos. 2.- La cantante toca guitarra y piano, con un registro de voz de soprano. Ya a los ocho años comienza a hacer esbozo de canciones, impulsada por su padre cuando lo acompaña en su ruta como cartero. 3.- Marie integra las bandas punk Strul y Mamas Barn en sus inicios, contando también con un derrotero como solista –grabando dos discos que le dan cierto renombre en su país- tras lo cual se une a Per Gessle para formar Roxette. 4.- La balada “It Must Have Been Love”, que se populariza con la película “Pretty Woman” (1990), inicialmente fue escrita como villancico navideño. De hecho, su nombre original era “It Must Have Been Love (Christmas For The Broken Hearted)” y cuando se lanza en Suecia en 1987 recibe una tibia recepción. El productor de ese clásico es el ingeniero chileno Humberto Gatica. Diez datos para recordar a Marie Fredriksson, la voz de Roxette que se apaga 5.- En Chile, el dúo se hace conocido en 1989 con los singles “The Look” y “Dress For Success”, lo que propicia versiones de que serían invitados al Festival de Viña del Mar 1990. Sin embargo, el alto costo de sus honorarios lleva a sus representantes a sugerir a otro grupo sueco para que llegara a la Ciudad Jardín. Esa banda que, finalmente, toca en la Quinta Vergara es Europe. 6.- El 24 de abril de 1992 es la fecha de su primera presentación en Chile. Aproximadamente, 40.000 personas llegan hasta el estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo para presenciar el concierto. Previamente, se presenta en el estelar de Canal 13, “Martes 13”. 7.- En 1996 el dúo lanza el disco “Baladas en español”. Ahí revisitan sus clásicos temas interpretados en un perfecto español por parte de Fredriksson. Por ejemplo, su tema “Spending My Time” se llama “Un día sin ti”; “It Must Have Been Love” pasa a ser “No sé si es amor” y “Listen To Your Heart” se nomina “Habla el corazón”. 8.- En 2002 el dúo es acusado de plagio en su tema “Sleeping In Muy Car” por parte de un compositor que alega que la melodía de dicha canción es similar a su tema “Jenny And I”. Al no haber evidencias claras del caso, el tribunal respectivo desestima la querella. 9.- En 2012 el grupo edita el DVD “Travelling The World”, tras su gira mundial protagonizada ese año. El audio de esa grabación es la presentación que el dúo realiza en el Teatro Caupolicán de Santiago de Chile durante el mes de mayo de dicho año. 10.- Para el 2017 Roxette preparaba un nuevo tour mundial. Sin embargo, fue en esos meses que la salud de Marie comienza a complicarse y el periplo, finalmente, se descarta. Sí se lanza «Good Karma», décimo álbum de estudio de la banda y el que -a la postre- resulta ser el último..

    Kent’s Sweden, or what a rock band can tell us about a nation OLA JOHANSSON Johansson, Ola (2013). Kent’s Sweden, or what a rock band can tell us about a nation. Fennia 191: 1, pp. 40-57. Helsinki. ISSN 798-5617. The Swedish rock band Kent is not only the most popular band in Sweden, but also perceived as quintessentially Swedish. Using the notion of “everyday na- tionalism” I argue that Kent both represent and actively shape contemporary Swedish national identity co-constitutively with their audience. Three themes are particularly important to understand this Swedishness. Firstly, the band was formed in the city of Eskilstuna but relocated to Stockholm, which illustrates a Swedish journey through class and space. Secondly, Kent interrogates a series of national myths in their songs. They do so using spatial and environmental meta- phors that can be conceptualized as different landscapes − inner, urban, and winter landscapes − representing Sweden. Thirdly, Kent also construct a “public landscape” that reflects on changes in Swedish society, including neoliberal and anti-immigrant tendencies. However, singer Marie Fredriksson has been advised by her doctorsto refrain from touring and as a consequence all the summer shows are cancelled. Their last performance was to be at the Grand Arena in Cape Town, South Africa on February 8 earlier this year. Marie Fredriksson:”It’s been an amazing 30 years! I feel nothing but joy and happiness when I look back ontheRoxette world tours. All our showsand memories over the years will forever be a big part of my life. I’m particularly proud and grateful for coming back in 2009 after my severe illness and to have been able to take Roxette around the globe a couple of more times. Sadly, now my touring days are over and I want to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful fans that has followed us on our long and winding journey. These investments have helped to attract more tourists to Sweden and created an interest among foreign entrepreneurs in business opportunities.
