REINTEGRATION SUPPORT TO DISPLACED PERSONS Displaced Persons Assessment

More than half of the estimated 12,000 displaced persons in have returned to Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, according to a recently completed assessment. In coordination with the Medan Aid Center (POSKO), OCHA, WFP, and IOM, the survey of more than 3,000 displaced people suggests an overall positive situation in terms of food and health, with many requesting employment, money, and other necessities to support their families. In the greater Medan area, the majority of displaced reside either with host families (both friends and relatives), or in two camps and two churches. Although the number of returns has slowed from the initial movement, more than 90 percent of those surveyed expressed a desire to return to Aceh province. Many of IOM Jl. On Wednesday, March 30, the Acting Governor of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD), Azwar Abu Bakar, will participate in a signing ceremony between IOM and local Acehnese contractors. The program will highlight the commitment by IOM to construct semi-permanent housing, which will IOM International be produced in Aceh, by the Acehnese, for the Achenese. IOM www.iom.int/tsunami launched a livelihood program in Lancang village, Jeunib sub district in Bireuen and has similar plans with Kembang Tanjung sub district in Pidie, and sub district in Aceh Besar. More than 140 women attended the program in Lancang Village. The livelihood initiative provides working tools, some cash to start their businesses, and vocational training where needed. In addition, the program is distributing relief goods, school items, and bicycles to several locations including Raudhatussakinah Pesantren, Tebing Phui, Aceh Besar; Leupung Camp, Aceh Besar; Dayah Pante Pesantren, Pagar Air, Aceh Besar; and Uswathun Khasanah orphanage in Geudung, Lhoksemawe.
