An article about the impressive size, diversity, and academic talents of the current freshman class suggested a comparison to the UIndy of 1990, when most of these freshmen were born. I think you’ll be amazed at the changes. Of course, this remarkable surge in enrollment means our facilities are often stretched to capacity. Hence the addition to the Schwitzer Student Center, which is very nearly complete; the construction of a new residence hall, which will be ready for students to move in by the fall of 2009; and the announcement of a campaign to build a new student athletic and recreation center. (You’ll enjoy the look back, too, at a few earlier incarnations of athletic facilities on campus.) As you’ll see in the story on the opposite page, we’re pleased also to be able to introduce a new direction for some of our publications. While we’re taking only the first steps along this path, we look UIndy is proud to announce forward to a time when more of our publications can be made available online as “green editions,” that President Beverley offering smart pdfs that can save paper and result in a much smaller carbon footprint.
