    triathlonscotland 2013 Coaching Conference: Speaker Biographies Key note speakers David Carry (Swimming) Aberdonian David Carry is a former Team Scotland and Team GB swimmer, having competed in 3 Olympic Games and 3 Commonwealth Games. He has medalled at Commonwealth and European levels, collecting 2 gold medals from the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006 (individual freestyle and individual medley). David who has recently completed a masters in Coaching, now works as a Business Coach with Red Sky Management and is an accomplished speaker. Ewen Cameron (sportscotland) Ewen has been a Partnership Manager within the Coaching and Volunteering team at sportscotland since 2009. He previously spent seven years as the Education and Development Manager for scottishathletics during which time he was the national lead for coach education and development. This role saw him introduce and establish the International Festival of Athletics Coaching (IFAC) as one of the largest and most prestigious events in the world for athletics coaches with attendances of over 400 domestic and international coach delegates. Now at sportscotland, Ewen works with 13 governing bodies to support the coaching teams with planning and investment, and leads on a number of national projects including multi skills development and performance athlete transition to coaching. Interactive Workshops Psychology: Motivation & Goal Setting - Dave Young Having worked in further education for many years as a college lecturer delivering sports coaching related topics, Dave has furthered his own educational attainment in recent years by successfully completing an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology. He is now working towards accreditation through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) which requires him to gain practical experience in various sport and exercise settings.

    Scottish Disability Sport - The First Fifty Years Richard Brickley MBE Foreword I was delighted to be asked by Chief Executive Gavin Macleod to record the first fifty years of Scottish Disability Sport, to mark the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Association. Initially the project was intended to be small but the more I researched, the more it brought back memories of great athletes, superb volunteers and great times. I became determined to try and do justice to as many as those great people as possible. I am certain I shall have forgotten key people in the eyes of others and if so I apologise profusely. For almost four decades SDS has been for me a way of life. The volunteers I have had the pleasure of working with for almost three decades are those I remember with great fondness, particularly during the early years. I applaud the many athletes who contributed to the rich history and success of SDS over fifty years. Outstanding volunteers like Bob Mitchell, Mary Urquhart, David Thomson, Jean Stone, Chris Cohen and Colin Rains helped to develop and sustain my passion for disability sport. I have been privileged to work with exceptional professionals like Ken Hutchison, Derek Casey, Liz Dendy, Paul Bush, Bob Price, Louise Martin, Sheila Dobie, Fiona Reid, Eddie McConnell, Gavin MacLeod, Mary Alison, Heather Lowden, Lawrie Randak, Tracey McCillen, Archie Cameron and many others whose commitment to inclusive sport has been obvious and long lasting.     Gold and silver for classy Proteas By Alan Simmonds, Media Officer, Bowls SA Gold in the men’s trips and silver in the women’s fours went to South Africa’s Proteas at Cardiff’s Penylan club, with Israel, England, Wales also going gold in the Atlantic Championships. Yesterday was the climax of the event’s first week – the past six days of the championships featured 25 countries from the European, African and South American theatres at four host clubs around the Welsh capital. The reverse of this week’s programme of men’s pairs and triples along with women’s singles and fours gets under way today. In the blue riband women’s singles gold medal match it was experienced Ruti Gilor from Israel who prevailed over pocket-sized Guernsey dynamo Lucy Beere, winning 21-15 after 24 ends. The first half of the 21 shots-up final was a dour affair with scores peeled at 11-apiece after 14 ends. However, the excitement level lifted over the following 10 when the 64-year-old Israeli star moved up a gear to claim the points on eight ends adding 14 shots to four as she powered to victory. England’s Jamie Walker and Steve Mitchinson achieved a great result at Penylan when they clinched the men’s pairs gold medal, beating Scottish superstars Alex Marshall and Paul Foster in their 18-end final. Earlier today the much-awaited men’s triples final saw a rejuvenated South African trio, under the astute guidance of hard man Billy Radloff, topple Scotland’s irrepressible Commonwealth Games champions Ronnie Duncan, Derek Oliver and Darren Burnett.
