Round 22 Sunday, August 23 2015 Sunshine Coast Stadium V Under 18 Boys Fire v Brisbane Strikers 12:00pm Senior Men Fire v Brisbane Strikers 2:00pm www.sunshinecoastfc.com.au From the Managing Director A warm welcome to all supporters and players to the Sunshine Coast Stadium for another great day of football. Today is the last home game for the season in the Sunshine Coast Stadium and what a fitting finale it is to be playing the Brisbane Strikers, our long standing rivals. The Under 18 boys kick off the day at 12.00pm with what will be a closely fought match as the Fire is at number three on the ladder and Brisbane Strikers are number four. Last time these two teams met Fire came out as the winners and I have no doubt the Brisbane Strikers will be looking for a turn around on that result. The Senior Men kick off at 2.00pm and this is going to be a critical match for the Brisbane Strikers as they need to win today to become the Premiers of the 2015 season. The Fire are undoubtedly starting as the underdogs in this match but if the team can repeat the form of last week against Brisbane Roar then they certainly have a prospect of being able to snatch a win and thwart the Brisbane Strikers’ chance of the Premiership. I wish both teams the best of luck GO THE FIRE!! Today will be another exciting encounter as the senior men look to finish the season without dropping points in their last 3 fixtures with the most recent being a strong performance against a very technically equipped Brisbane Roar, the U18’s will be looking to get back after putting in a good display of football but not coming away from the game with a favourable result. Today we will be presenting our Elite Academy players and SAP players to the crowd at halftime, whilst we also have the final of the Kick for Cash competition which will also be taking place. Our holiday program for September holidays is proving to be successful with spaces again filling up rapidly. Get in early to avoid disappointment (please visit the website for details). Our new goalkeeping academy is proving to be a huge success with numbers increasing on a daily basis, with the pedigree of English Premier League coach Ashley Kingdon heading up the program its obvious the level he has brought to the club has shown through program growth (again please follow our website for details). Finally, our Senior Women are away to UQFC in the Finals Series and I would like to take this opportunity to wish David, all the girls and staff the very best of luck. I look forward to seeing you all at the game. Melvyn Wilkes Technical Director of Coaching Sunshine Coast FC From the Senior Men’s Coach Today is our final game of the season and the fixture that we have been waiting for all season. The great rivalry between Fire and Strikers over the last few seasons makes this one of the most anticipated games of the season. The strikers are looking for a win to get above Moreton Bay and win the premiership. Today marks Strikers Coach Kevin Ahern-Evans coming back for the first time since his departure from Sunshine Coast FC. We’re looking for redemption as we didn't perform at all down at Perry Park earlier on in the season. With our recent performances I'm hoping the boys can end the season on a real high and give them some confidence to take in to next season. I would like to thank everybody connected with the football club throughout for their support and advice especially when we went through our rough patch in the middle of the season I've certainly enjoyed it and seeing the young boys set up and show us they can perform at senior level has been one of the most pleasing aspects. I certainly hope you all come out to support us one last time, making plenty of noise and help us get that win that we want to finish the season off with. Paul Arnison Senior Men Coach Sunshine Coast FC From the Under 18 Boys Coach With only three rounds remaining it is important for the boys continue to fight for three points. We played Brisbane Strikers a month ago and won 2-1. Games between the two sides have been entertaining and have shown some quality football from both sides. The Fire are currently sitting in third spot, with the strikers in fourth. The game last week against Brisbane Roar we lost 3-1, which was disappointing as we played well and deserved a result. Best of luck to the Senior Men in their final game of the season against the Strikers and the Fire woman in their first game of the Finals Series against UQFC. Woodall said that after a general review of the Senior Team’s performance in 2015, consultation with Sunshine Coast FC Technical Director Melvyn Wilkes and negotiations with Arnison, the decision has been made to re-appoint Arnison for the 2016 season as Senior Men’s Coach. “Clearly the Senior Men’s result for the 2015 season has been a disappointment for the Club but we are still of the view that Paul has made good progress as a Senior Coach and has potential to be an outstanding Coach given the opportunity,” Woodall said. “We have every confidence that considering the hard work put in by everyone in 2015 we will see a marked improvement in the Senior Men’s performance in 2016.” Arnison said he was delighted to be given the opportunity to continue coaching the Senior Men’s team and is confident that he will make his mark in 2016. “I’m really excited for next year, we’ve seen some of the younger boys make the jump into the Senior Team and they’ve definitely shown that they can perform at a higher level,” Arnison said. “It’s great to be given that responsibility again and I’m confident for 2016 season,” he concluded. Paul will also continue working for the Club as a Coach in the Junior NPL Program.
