Round 16 Sunday, July 5 2015 Sunshine Coast Stadium Round 16 Sunday, July 5 2015 Sunshine Coast Stadium V Under 18 Boys Fire v Brisbane Strikers FC 12:00pm Senior Men Fire v Northern Fury FC 2:00pm www.sunshinecoastfc.com.au From the Managing Director A warm welcome to all supporters and players who have come to the Sunshine Coast Stadium for the matches today. The Senior Men are sitting in ninth place after some disappointing losses. They are hoping to regain their momentum with a win today against Northern Fury who are seventh on the table. The Under 18 Boys kick off the day at 12.00pm against Brisbane Strikers. This will be their third time facing each other with a previous win each. Both teams have equal points but Strikers sit at number 4 on the table with the Fire U18 boys at third position. The Kick for Cash competition is on again at half time of the Senior Men’s game. Make sure you put your name in to enter because the winner today will move on to the next stage of the competition. Have a great day of football. GO THE FIRE!! An update from the junior sections, we are pleased that another five players from the U12’s Boys squad have been selected for trials for the state U12’s SAP program and we congratulate the boys and the staff on that achievement. In other areas of the football department we are now pleased to announce that we have been granted permission to commence our Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) for boys U10’s, U11’s and girls U10’s/U11’s combined from the start of the new school term please visit the website for full details of trials. Along with this great news we are also looking for our next pool of young talent to join our already successful Elite Academy program which is run during term time throughout the year (please feel free to register your interest via the website). In addition to our existing programs, we have our annual July holiday program running from Monday 6th July – Thursday 9th July with spaces filling up rapidly so be quick to register to avoid disappointment. We look forward to seeing you at the game to support the teams. Melvyn Wilkes Technical Director of Coaching Sunshine Coast FC From the Senior Men’s Coach Today we host Northern Fury in what I expect to be a tough game. Fury, like us, can beat anybody on their day. The boys played fantastically well up in Townsville a few months ago when we came away with a 5-1 win. Make no mistake though, Fury under their great coach Ian Ferguson, who likes to get the ball down and play good attacking football, can be very dangerous so we will have to be at our very best again come Sunday. I'll be expecting a response from the boys from last Sunday's result against Olympic and we are in need of a big 3 points on Sunday. Paul Arnison Senior Men’s Coach Sunshine Coast FC From the Under 18 Boys Coach Welcome to our families and supporters to this important clash against Brisbane Strikers. Both teams are currently in equal third position on 24 points. This match is a must-win if we want to keep in the running with Brisbane Roar, who are seven points clear on top of the table. This will be the third time we have played this year and we have both taken three points in those clashes. We have a few players returning from suspension and injury this week, which will make us a stronger team. Six points from both Fire teams would be a much needed result. Best of luck to both teams. • Round 1 March 1
Round 1 March 1 Sunshine Coast Stadium Under 18 Boys Fire v Brisbane City 12:00pm Senior Men’s Team Fire v Brisbane City 2:15pm www.sunshinecoastfc.com.au From the Managing Director Welcome to all our Fire supporters, players and the Brisbane City supporters, players and staff to our first Sunshine Coast Stadium game day for the 2015 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland season. Today we will see our Under 18 Boys’ and Senior Men’s teams take on Brisbane City. The Under 18 Boys will kick-off first at 12:00pm. Many of our Under 18 Boys’ players have been with the Club for a number of years now and it is great to see them progressing closer to senior football. The Fire faced Brisbane City in the pre-season Macron Cup competition; after an unbeaten run Fire lost to City 2-0 in the Final. If that contest is anything to go by, we are in for a very competitive game today. The Senior Men will kick-off at 2:15pm. Our Fire squad has undergone a number of changes since last year; Paul Arnison has taken the reigns as head coach and I am sure his wealth of experience playing in the EPL, as well as his stellar coaching record with our Under 18 Boys’ teams in 2013 and 2014 will stand him in good stead with the Senior Men’s Team. A number of players from our QSL years have also returned to play at NPL level and some of our younger players have stepped up to play senior football including striker Jacob Fulluck and attacking midfielder Timi Ajibola.

  • Sport and Identity Was, to a Great Extent, Influenced by My Personal Interests
FAN IDENTITY AND IDENTIFICATION DRIVERS - STOKING THE FLAMES OF THE PHOENIX By Markus Rühl A thesis submitted to the Victoria University of Wellington in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Management Studies Victoria University of Wellington 2010 ABSTRACT ABSTRACT Fans are of highest importance for the financial success of sports clubs (van Leeuwen, Quick, & Daniel, 2002). However, the nature of fandom and the meaning that fans place upon their relationship with a sports club varies and different degrees of fandom exist (Wann & Branscombe, 1990). Whilst much research has been done on the assessment of fan identification, little work has contributed to its practical application. For example, for sport marketers to actively strengthen their fan base, more than a mere assessment of the identification level of their fans is necessary. It is suggested that knowledge about the underlying identification drivers of fans with different identification levels is needed to inform any managerial action. This research aims to enhance understanding about the relationship between the level of fan identification and the drivers of identification, and it does so, via a study of New Zealand‟s only professional football club Wellington Phoenix FC. A cross-sectional convenience sample of 517 Wellington Phoenix fans was surveyed using both online and researcher administered/respondent completed questionnaires. The Sports Spectator Identification Scale (Wann & Branscombe, 1993) was used to measure fan identification, and participants were categorized into five identification levels. Findings show that ten of 16 identification drivers are correlated with the identification level. Of particular interest are findings that indicate a mediating impact of the identification level on specific relationships.
