Book Self-Publishing Best Practices
Montana Tech Library Digital Commons @ Montana Tech Graduate Theses & Non-Theses Student Scholarship Fall 2019 Book Self-Publishing Best Practices Erica Jansma Follow this and additional works at: https://digitalcommons.mtech.edu/grad_rsch Part of the Communication Commons Book Self-Publishing Best Practices by Erica Jansma A project submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of M.S. Technical Communication Montana Tech 2019 ii Abstract I have taken a manuscript through the book publishing process to produce a camera-ready print book and e-book. This includes copyediting, designing layout templates, laying out the document in InDesign, and producing an index. My research is focused on the best practices and standards for publishing. Lessons learned from my research and experience include layout best practices, particularly linespacing and alignment guidelines, as well as the limitations and capabilities of InDesign, particularly its endnote functionality. Based on the results of this project, I can recommend self-publishers to understand the software and distribution platforms prior to publishing a book to ensure the required specifications are met to avoid complications later in the process. This document provides details on many of the software, distribution, and design options available for self-publishers to consider. Keywords: self-publishing, publishing, books, ebooks, book design, layout iii Dedication I dedicate this project to both of my grandmothers. I grew up watching you work hard, sacrifice, trust, and love with everything you have; it was beautiful; you are beautiful; and I hope I can model your example with a fraction of your grace and fruitfulness. Thank you for loving me so well. -
Hark! a Vagrant Free Download
HARK! A VAGRANT FREE DOWNLOAD Kate Beaton | 166 pages | 27 Sep 2011 | DRAWN & QUARTERLY | 9781770460607 | English | United Kingdom Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton (2011, Hardcover) Readers also enjoyed. Five stars. Looking on the bright side, although Kate Beaton's drawing style is not my favorite personally, it is expressive and seems to fit the content of the comic strips quite well. Beaton's book is crammed full of smart, funny, and shhh! No era or tome emerges unscathbed as Beaton rightly skewers the Western world's revolutionaries, leaders, sycophants, and suffragists while equally honing her wit on the hapless heroes, heroines, and villains of the best-loved fiction. Weren't we talking about Middle Ages stuff? Rochester and giggles at the problematic lives of peasants in Medieval England. This is more of a for-everyone Hark! A Vagrant. Beaton, for taking some of the world's most problematic characters fiction or otherwise and making them loveable again. Ratings and Reviews Write a review. Some of my favorites include Sherlock Holmes and his Watsons, pirate nemeses, and the various French Revolution figures. My favorite sequence would have to be the journey of Lewis and Clark, but the ones Hark! A Vagrant the Bronte sisters wer Hark! Hark! A Vagrant Vagrant features sexy Batman, the true stories behind Hark! A Vagrant Nancy Drew covers, and Queen Elizabeth doing the albatross. Quite a few off the comics made me laugh, and I liked the subtle humor I them. Delaf Annie Groovie. Hark! A Vagrant line is scratchy Hark! A Vagrant her comics often look muddy. -
Reliability and Security of Large Scale Data Storage in Cloud Computing C.W
This article is part of the Reliability Society 2010 Annual Technical Report Reliability and Security of Large Scale Data Storage in Cloud Computing C.W. Hsu ¹¹¹ C.W. Wang ²²² Shiuhpyng Shieh ³³³ Department of Computer Science Taiwan Information Security Center at National Chiao Tung University NCTU (TWISC@NCTU) Email: ¹[email protected] ³[email protected] ²[email protected] Abstract In this article, we will present new challenges to the large scale cloud computing, namely reliability and security. Recent progress in the research area will be briefly reviewed. It has been proved that it is impossible to satisfy consistency, availability, and partitioned-tolerance simultaneously. Tradeoff becomes crucial among these factors to choose a suitable data access model for a distributed storage system. In this article, new security issues will be addressed and potential solutions will be discussed. Introduction “Cloud Computing ”, a novel computing model for large-scale application, has attracted much attention from both academic and industry. Since 2006, Google Inc. Chief Executive Eric Schmidt introduced the term into industry, and related research had been carried out in recent years. Cloud computing provides scalable deployment and fine-grained management of services through efficient resource sharing mechanism (most of them are for hardware resources, such as VM). Convinced by the manner called “ pay-as-you-go ” [1][2], companies can lower the cost of equipment management including machine purchasing, human maintenance, data backup, etc. Many cloud services rapidly appear on the Internet, such as Amazon’s EC2, Microsoft’s Azure, Google’s Gmail, Facebook, and so on. However, the well-known definition of the term “Cloud Computing ” was first given by Prof. -

Drawn&Quarterly
DRAWN & QUARTERLY spring 2012 catalogue EXCERPT FROM GUY DELISLE’S JERUSALEM EXCERPT FROM GUY DELISLE’S JERUSALEM EXCERPT FROM GUY DELISLE’S JERUSALEM CANADIAN AUTHOR GUY DELISLE JERUSALEM Chronicles from the Holy City Acclaimed graphic memoirist Guy Delisle returns with his strongest work yet, a thoughtful and moving travelogue about life in Israel. Delisle and his family spent a year in East Jerusalem as part of his wife’s work with the non-governmental organiza- tion Doctors Without Borders. They were there for the short but brutal Gaza War, a three-week-long military strike that resulted in more than 1000 Palestinian deaths. In his interactions with the emergency medical team sent in by Doctors Without Borders, Delisle eloquently plumbs the depths of the conflict. Some of the most moving moments in Jerusalem are the in- teractions between Delisle and Palestinian art students as they explain the motivations for their work. Interspersed with these simply told, affecting stories of suffering, Delisle deftly and often drolly recounts the quotidian: crossing checkpoints, going ko- sher for Passover, and befriending other stay-at-home dads with NGO-employed wives. Jerusalem evinces Delisle’s renewed fascination with architec- ture and landscape as political and apolitical, with studies of highways, villages, and olive groves recurring alongside depictions of the newly erected West Bank Barrier and illegal Israeli settlements. His drawn line is both sensitive and fair, assuming nothing and drawing everything. Jerusalem showcases once more Delisle’s mastery of the travelogue. “[Delisle’s books are] some of the most effective and fully realized travel writing out there.” – NPR ALSO AVAILABLE: SHENZHEN 978-1-77046-079-9 • $14.95 USD/CDN BURMA CHRONICLES 978-1770460256 • $16.95 USD/CDN PYONGYANG 978-1897299210 • $14.95 USD/CDN GUY DELISLE spent a decade working in animation in Europe and Asia. -
