A RICH COLLECTION OF CLASSIC AND CONTEMPOrarY LITEraTURE ® Literary Classics That Teachers Love to Teach Expert 21 features a rich collection of classic literature that provokes critical thinking and discussion. Within each workshop, students will read seven selections across a number of genres including short story, poetry, play, novel excerpt, myth, and more. Each literary reading helps students read critically and develop skills and metacognitive strategies to synthesize and communicate their understanding. A RICH COLLECTION OF CLASSIC AND CONTEMPOrarY LITEraTURE Informational Texts That Students Want to Read Approximately half of the readings in Expert 21 are nonfiction. Informational and expository texts form the basis of most content that students will be asked to read outside the classroom walls. Being able to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information, data, and multiple points of view are the new basic literary skills. They form the foundation for higher order thinking and reading skills.
