    Urban Design Study for Knocktopher Overview Knocktopher is a historic settlement, containing the remains of ancient and medieval building forms, including ringforts, the sites of at least three castles (the most notable of which is the Garrison Castle), the remains of a Carmelite Convent (founded and endowed by James, 2nd Earl of Ormond, in 1356), includ- ing the distinctive Church tower in ruins, and the magnificent 1 Knocktopher Abbey. Photo 1: View of Church of Ireland on entering the village on the Callan Road— Areas of Notable Character note landscaped verge on right. The structure and form of Knocktopher village, as it appears today, consists of a somewhat fragmented or dispersed form, with a number of distinctive townscape elements. These could be best described as 'character areas' - of which there are four notable ones - each separated by an intervening area of unde- veloped agricultural lands. These can be loosely described as follows: 1. Village Centre and Vicinity The first of these would be in the vicinity of the Church of Ireland Church and the intersection of the N9 and the Callan Road (R699)/Graigenamanagh Road. This is the commercial heart of the village, which includes the service station, Car- roll's Hotel, a pub and local retail store. It is typified by a tight urban form and near continuous building lines, though is ad- joined on the perimeter by freestanding 2 buildings and bungalows. 2. Carlow to enhance the remote/hybrid working function of all 6. Cavan Digital Hub Cavan NWR € 11,016.00 The purpose of this project is to strengthen the hubs recovery strategy as the economy opens fully and to support new digitally focused start ups and businesses in their growth within the area. Installation of additional technology enabled systems such as a remote access system will improve the hubs service current offerings. Cavan County Council Cavan NWR € 225,000.00 Project aims to allow 10 BCPs in Cavan to run a range of digital activities and enhance remote working spaces for all members of the community. The locations in Cavan of these BCPs are Cornafean , Templeport , Bunnoe ,Mullahoran, Drumavaddy ,Castlerahan , Killenkere,Kildallan, Drumgoon,Swanlinbar. The 10 communities aim to develop flexible working solutions by developing and enhancing digital workspaces and to develop these BCPs into digital hubs. Proposal for funding includes additional switches and access points, IOT equipment, PV solar panels, electric car charging points & privacy booths. Also sought as a part of this investment will be relevant office furniture, perspex screens and security systems. Clare County Council Clare Southern € 209,700.00 This project will upgrade exisiting hubs and BCPs in Ennis, Ennistymon, Kilrush, Flagmount and Feakle. Through this proposal Clare plan to enhance remote working space for all members in local communities by introducing additional hot desk facilities in each location, upgrade internal and external signage and upgrading disability access.
