SY SQUAD Program 2016 1 | P a g e Welcome to the Southport Yacht Club Squad 2016 In this information booklet you will find detailed descriptions of what’s in store for the Team in 2016. We urge you to please keep this booklet handy as it will have all the information required for the year ahead. There are certain requirements that are implemented this year to encourage additional commitment as we strive to support and encourage every individual sailor to be the best that they can be. We cater for various skill levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and have structured the training schedule to suit. Some sessions may be divided into on-water and off-water as to best benefit the sailors development. Please be aware that in some instances our training schedule will need to be adapted to suit varying weather conditions ie. wind and tide. This may result in some training sessions being theory and/or fitness based. These sessions also form an important part of your sailing pathway. The Club Coach will make this decision, prior to the session, based on the safety of the squad members and opportunity for development. All squad members will be asked to abide by a behaviour code, copy attached. Welcome to the Team and all the best for your 2016 sailing season. Kind Regards, Joe Sabin Club Coach 2 | P a g e Behaviour: This year we have decided to reinforce some rules into the Academy to ensure that all students are working hard to improve their skills, while also having fun!! Rues for Sailors: 1. Sign-on and sign-off is mandatory to ensure your safety. If you do not sign on your will not be permitted to train. 2. Rig & de-rig your own boats. Parents are there to help, not do all the work for you. 3. Be respectful of your fellow sailors, coaches & equipment. 4. Be respectful of your surrounds, willful damage will not be tolerated. Leo and the staff put in a huge amount of work to keep the club & surrounds in excellent condition. 5. Be aware of your water usage. Please do not waste this precious resource. 6. Come to training ready to learn, work hard and have fun with your friends! Good Behaviour We are here with a main common goal of becoming better sailors and improving our skills. Some lessons will be a bit tedious and repetitive in order to achieve this. We are happy to reward your positive and hardworking behaviour with fun games & free time at the end of the session. However you must earn it! Poor Behaviour & Consequences, as per the Code of Conduct: 1. Bullying will not be tolerated!! Sailors will be issued with a code of conduct breach. Should this behaviour continue, you may be suspended from the club. 2. If students are acting inappropriately on the water (swearing, bullying, not following instructions, being dangerous etc), coaches can send sailors to shore. 3. Parents/Guardians are asked to avoid coaching from the sidelines, this is a distraction for the coaches and sailors. 4. As we are all one team, should one person do the wrong thing, the whole team will be effected by these actions. So let’s all work together and look out for one another. 3 | P a g e Term Dates and Training Schedules: Term 1 2016 January 27th March 24th Total 9 weeks of Training Term 2 2016 April 11th June 24th Total 11 weeks of Training Term 3 2016 Winter Break Term 4 2016 October 3rd December 9th Total 10 Weeks Training Weekly Term Training Schedule Wednesday Thursday Friday Optimist BRONZE GOLD SILVER Sabot (Beginner) (Advanced) (Intermediate) Bic 4:15pm – 6:00pm 4:15pm-6:00pm 4:15pm-6:00pm Laser GOLD SILVER (Advanced) (Intermediate) 4:15pm-6:00pm 4:15pm-6:00pm 4 | P a g e Bronze Fleet Ideal for new sailors who have just completed their junior basics course and are looking to take the next step and move into their own boat. There is so much more to do. The Club has been extremely active this year. People tell me mid week is slow, but I have witnessed a nice steady quiet activity. There is almost al- ways a Board member past and / or present roaming around doing something and I have rarely seen the stewards idle. Maybe this will change as the Jr. sailors have finished their sessions and the air cools a bit more each night. Ladies Cup was a perfect event. A shifty wind from the north, “cheating to the east,” was a challenge to 50 boats crossing the line. The finishers crossed the line in an unexpected order and Sly, with three generations of Beaudins sailing, took the honor of the Cup. The afternoon atmosphere was casual but excited for the fine weather, the company and for all the winners. The race, the BBQ, the Opti dedication and memory to Don and Mary Rathbone and the awards made it all in all a very fine day.

  • UNITED STATES PERFORMANCE HANDICAP RACING FLEET LOW, HIGH, AVERAGE and MEDIAN PERFORMANCE HANDICAPS for the Years 2005 Through 2011 IMPORTANT NOTE
UNITED STATES PERFORMANCE HANDICAP RACING FLEET LOW, HIGH, AVERAGE AND MEDIAN PERFORMANCE HANDICAPS for the years 2005 through 2011 IMPORTANT NOTE The following pages lists base performance handicaps (BHCPs) and low, high, average, and median performance handicaps reported by US PHRF Fleets for well over 4100 boat classes or types displayed in Adobe Acrobat portable document file format. Use Adobe Acrobat’s ‘FIND” feature, <CTRL-F>, to display specific information in this list for each class. Class names conform to US PHRF designations. The information for this list was culled from data sources used to prepare the “History of US PHRF Affiliated Fleet Handicaps for 2011”. This reference book, published annually by the UNITED STATES SAILING ASSOCIATION, is often referred to as the “Red, White, & Blue book of PHRF Handicaps”. The publication lists base handicaps in seconds per mile by Class, number of actively handicapped boats by Fleet, date of last reported entry and other useful information collected over the years from more than 60 reporting PHRF Fleets throughout North America. The reference is divided into three sections, Introduction, Monohull Base Handicaps, and Multihull Base Handicaps. Assumptions underlying determination of PHRF Base Handicaps are explicitly listed in the Introduction section. The reference is available on-line to US SAILING member PHRF fleets and the US SAILING general membership. A current membership ID and password are required to login and obtain access at: http://offshore.ussailing.org/PHRF/2011_PHRF_Handicaps_Book.htm . Precautions: Reported handicaps base handicaps are for production boats only. One-off custom designs are not included. A base handicap does not include fleet adjustments for variances in the sail plan and other modifications to designed hull form and rig that determine the actual handicap used to score a race.

  • US Sailing Rig Dimensions Database
ABOUT THIS CRITICAL DIMENSION DATA FILE There are databases that record critical dimensions of production sailboats that handicappers may use to identify yachts that race and to help them determine a sailing number to score competitive events. These databases are associated with empirical or performance handicapping systems worldwide and are generally available from those organizations via internet access. This data file contains dimensions for some, but not all, production boats reported to USPHRF since 1995. These data may be used to support performance handicapping by affiliated USPHRF fleets. There are many more boats in databases that sailmakers and handicappers possess. The USPHRF Technical Subcommittee and the US SAILING Offshore Office have several. This Adobe Acrobat file contains data mostly supplied by USPHRF affiliated fleets, a few manufacturers, naval architects, and others making contributions to database. While this data file is generally helpful, it does contain errors of omission and inaccuracies that are left to users to rectify by sending corrections to USPHRF by way of the data form below. The form also asks for additional information that anticipates the annual fall data collection from USPHRF affiliated fleets. Return this form to the USPHRF Committee c/o US SAILING. How do you access information in this data file of well over 5000 records for a specific boat? Use Adobe Acrobat Reader’s ‘FIND” feature, <CTRL-F>. Information currently in the file will be displayed for each Yacht Type/Class upon request. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
