    PAKISTAN 2019 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution establishes Islam as the state religion and requires all provisions of the law to be consistent with Islam. The constitution states, “Subject to law, public order, and morality, every citizen shall have the right to profess, practice, and propagate his religion.” It also states, “A person of the Qadiani group or the Lahori group (who call themselves Ahmadis), is a non-Muslim.” The courts continued to enforce blasphemy laws, punishment for which ranges from life in prison to execution for a range of charges, including “defiling the Prophet Muhammad.” According to civil society reports, there were at least 84 individuals imprisoned on blasphemy charges, at least 29 of whom had received death sentences, as compared with 77 and 28, respectively, in 2018. The government has never executed anyone specifically for blasphemy. According to data provided by nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), police registered new blasphemy cases against at least 10 individuals. Christian advocacy organizations and media outlets stated that four Christians were tortured or mistreated by police in August and September, resulting in the death of one of them. On January 29, the Supreme Court upheld its 2018 judgment overturning the conviction of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy in 2010. Bibi left the country on May 7, after death threats made it unsafe for her to remain. On September 25, the Supreme Court overturned the conviction of a man who had spent 18 years in prison for blasphemy. On December 21, a Multan court sentenced English literature lecturer Junaid Hafeez to death for insulting the Prophet Muhammad after he had spent nearly seven years awaiting trial and verdict.

Even the so called prime minister of AJK (PoK), belonging to PML-N was seen prodding Imran Khan to use Pakistani forces to attack India! He also said that in 1962, lost an opportunity to liberate Kashmir! However, there did not seem to be any enthusiasm over such aggressive posturing by local leaders. Rather the spread of religious conservatism and inter-sectarian animus became visible in a clash between two groups over picnickers from Lower Naltar playing music in front of a Mosque! A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was set up to probe the Naltar incident. There were reports of China making visible efforts to reach out to the people and deliver essential items like medicines, food packages and equipment to the local administration to fight the pandemic.

He gave the remarks during a visit to Radio Pakistan's Headquarters in Islamabad on Friday. He was also accompanied by Secretary Information and Broadcasting Akbar Hussain Durrani. The Minister said the role of radio has assumed special significance during the Covid-19 pandemic due to its mass reach and access to every nook and corner of the country. The Minister visited various sections of Radio Pakistan including News, Programme, and Archives. Director General PBC Ambreen Jan gave briefing to the Minister on working and role of various departments of Radio Pakistan. Upgradation and digitization of existing transmitters of PBC was also discussed. The Minister directed the Information Secretary to expedite the process of modernizing existing AM transmitters of 100 and 400 KW on DRM in the first phase. The Minister highly appreciated Saut ul Quran channel of Radio Pakistan for its religious services to the people. Later, exclusively talking to Radio Pakistan's News and Current Affairs Channel, the Minister said he has special affinity with Radio Pakistan as his father and prominent Urdu poet Ahmad Faraz had also started his career from this premium institution. He said Radio Pakistan is endowed with rich past, heritage, and traditions and we will try to rebuild the institution on these values.
