MUSIC TALK WITH RON WHEELER TUESDAY, JUNE 18TH 2:30 PM GRAND BALLROOM

Ron Wheeler’s music talks have been regular features for audiences of all ages, youth groups to senior communities, from summer camps to major universities. With the use of CD’s and videos, he covers a wide range of subjects from the famous Three B’s (Bach, Beethoven and Brahms) to contemporary American music. Information includes the relevance of the composers he is talking about and their places in musical history along with revealing glimpses into their personal lives. For example, everybody knows Bach had 20 children with 2 wives and that Tchaikovsky was financially supported by a woman he never knew, but how many people know Mozart wrote the popular overture to “The Marriage of Figaro” the morning of its premier while suffering from a massive hangover? Wheeler’s own background is as extensive as any of the composers he talks about. As a performing musician, he has been the music director of the Tulsa Youth Symphony since 1972. He both performed in as a violinist and conducted concerts for the Tulsa Philharmonic and the Sunriver, Oregon, Music Festival along with the same duties for music festivals and camps in , Arkansas, , and . As an administrator, he has served on the staffs of the Cascade Music Festival in Bend, Oregon, the Teton Music Festival in Jackson, Wyoming, and the Tulsa Philharmonic where he as the Director of Education. Recently he received a lifetime achievement award from the Oklahoma Association of Music Educators and in November 2013, he received the Governor’s award for Arts in Education on behalf of the Tulsa Young Symphony.

IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO THINK ABOUT CHRISTMAS…… EPWORTH VILLA RESIDENT ASSOCIATION CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 13, 2019 Preparation for the Annual Children’s Party begins early. It is held every year in conjunction with the distribution of Holiday Gifts to Epworth employees. For children and grandchildren of Epworth Employees, who are ten years of age or younger, their party will be held on the afternoon of December 13th in the Grand Ballroom from 2:00–4:00 PM.

The expenses for the yearly endeavor requires a budget of from $1600- $1800. All expenses are defrayed by contributions from Epworth Villa residents. At this time, for anyone who would like to make a contribution to support this activity, make a check to: EPWORTH RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION, and on the memo line designate it is for THE CHILDREN’S PARTY. Place your check in and envelope addressed to: SALLY L., TREASURER – BOX 16B.

SATURDAY MATINEE MOVIE (Shown in the 2nd Floor Theater) SATURDAY, JUNE 15TH 2:00 PM 2018 EIGHTH GRADE Thirteen-year old Kayla endures the tidal wave of contemporary suburban adolescence as she makes her way through the last week of middle school, the end of her thus far disastrous eighth grade year, before she begins high school. This is a must see movie for adults who want to understand the suffocating social pressures generated by small moments that feel impossibly huge to young people attempting to negotiate a difficult world. RATINGS: R 14+ RUN TIME 1hr 33min

EVTV MOVIE WILL BE SHOWN On EVTV Channel 1960 SAT. 7:00 PM AND WED. 8:00 PM SAT., JUNE 15TH AND WED., JUNE 19TH PATTON Soon after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Patton was given command of the 1st and 2nd Armored Divisions and organized a training center in the California desert. Patton headed to North Africa late in 1942 as the head of an American force. Before the initial landings on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, he presented his troops with an expression of his now-legendary philosophy of battle: “We shall attack and attack until we are exhausted, and then we shall attack again.” Patton’s lust for battle would earn him the colorful nickname “Old Blood and Guts” among his troops.
