We are once again offering a ‘buy one, get one free’ offer for tonne bags of salt to parishes and schools and are running a competition to update our facebook page with a different winter picture every week. Schools have the chance to win a trip to our depot by entering our winter logo competition. The team coordinated three ‘Think Community’ conferences which were very well received by the parishes that attended. They gave an opportunity for parishes to gain a deeper insight into a number of topics such as flooding, winter operations, parking, collision reduction and the new LED lighting programme. It was a chance for parishes to talk with TfB staff in greater detail as well as hear a number of presentations and smaller group discussions. The LED streetlight replacement programme, road and footway treatment programmes, and severe weather recovery scheme continue and the Comms team continue to promote the good work being carried out. The patching programme will soon commence and our website will be updated with work sites weekly. TfB’s blog continues to be updated weekly and followers on Twitter and Facebook are on the up! Road Safety Safe Drive Stay Alive (SDSA) will be taking place during November . SDSA is a multi-Agency event for 16-24 year olds and aims to reduce the number of young driver casualties on the roads in the Thames Valley. Secondary schools from all over Bucks are bussed to the show at local venues, such as Milton Keynes, High Wycombe and Oxford. The one hour shows are a hard hitting mix of film and personal testimonies from those involved in crashes, either as a victim, parent or in a professional capacity, such as Police, Fire and Ambulance services.. For more information on dates and how to book a place log onto; http://www.safedrive.org.uk/ or contact June Howlett, e-mail; [email protected] FREE Winter Driving Workshops th – Dates are now confirmed for the popular Winter Driving Workshops in Cheshamst on the 11 November, High Wycombe on the 12th November and Aylesbury on the 21 January. These events take place in the evening and are a mix of presentations on how to prepare your car for the winter, driving in different weather conditions and hands on demonstrations of how to maintain your car during the winter months. Anyone wishing to book a free place then contact; June Howlett e-mail; [email protected] First Gear , pre driver event held at Aylesbury Vale Academy. 16 drivers attended the full day event and feedback had been very positive. Supported by local driving instructors, Thames valley Police, The Fire Service and local businesses. Roadside checks – Countywide in partnership with Thames Valley Police. Booked for December (car lights and drink drive). These take place early morning and evening. Drivers are stopped if lights not working and advised by Road Safety on the importance of making sure all lights are working at all times, but especially during the winter. The advice is given rather than prosecution. Drivers that are stopped will also be breathalysed. Make the Commitment – promoted at the Junior Road Safety Conference. 150 ‘pledge*’ forms sent out to Broughton Junior School following conference. They wish to promote to all their parents. (*Pledge to drive within the speed limit) Get in Gear – post-test driver training course.th We now offer the workshop to schools at £10 per student, the first pilot workshop is on the 6 November and 14 students have booked. If they wish to complete the 4 hours driving, then they pay the instructor directly as there is no subsidy attached to this now. We will still receive the reports and issue certificates for those that complete. This can be offered to all schools countywide. Rights of Way – Operations Update Members of the Forum will no doubt be aware that funding has been made available by the County Council to enable parish councils to benefit from being able to undertake and manage rights of way clearance work over the summer. The money was in the form of a grant to parish councils wishing to employ their contractors to undertake the work. Over 20 parishes have taken part in the scheme and this has amounted to 80 kilometres of clearance in those parishes over the summer months. Additionally, Transport for Bucks carried out rights of way clearance in a number of other parishes, which added up to a further 120 kilometres of clearance, bringing the total of summer clearance 2014 to 200 kilometres. In previous years, summer clearance was undertaken on 330 kilometres of path, but as the group will be aware the Rights of Way budget received a significant cut from 2014 that necessitated a reduction in maintenance that could be carried out. The Rights of Way Operations team work with the Chiltern Society Path Maintenance Volunteers to improve public access, particularly for less mobile users, and we are always looking to improve public access by removing stile structures and installing kissing gate or pedestrian gates. So far this year over 80 new gate structures have been installed to improve access to the network for all users, and overall the Chiltern Society volunteers have worked over 800 hours on rights of way in Buckinghamshire.
