  • Egidio Landi: a Life in the Science and Teaching of Polarimetry
Egidio Landi: A Life in the Science and Teaching of Polarimetry R. Casini High Altitude Observatory, National Center for Atmospheric Research,1 P.O. Box 3000, Boulder, CO 80307-3000, U.S.A. Abstract. This is inevitably a very personal and perhaps even biased account of the work of Prof. Egidio Landi Degl’Innocenti, during his nearly 45 years long scientific career, in the field of polarimetry as it applies to the investigation of solar processes, as well as in the broader context of astrophysics. Despite the breadth of Egidio’s con- tributions to scientific research and teaching, I will not be providing (nor would I have been able to) a complete account of his work. I instead made the choice to emphasize Egidio’s style in approaching new science challenges as well as revisiting older prob- lems. This style is first of all a product of both personal discipline and deeply rooted curiosity, but also a legacy of the cultural and academic ambient where Egidio spent his formative years, that is, Florence and its University. Egidio Landi Degl’Innocenti was born in Florence, on January 25th, 1945, only a few months after the liberation of the city from the occupation of the German army achieved by the local Resistance groups and the Anglo-American armed forces. Despite the dramatic pillaging and destruction of the city during one year of Nazi occupation, the cultural spirit of the place had remained unscathed, and this certainly contributed to a relatively speedy recovery in the years of the “reconstruction” that followed the end of World War II.

  • Calamandrei, Piero Il Contributo Italiano Alla Storia Del Pensiero – Diritto (2012) Di Nicolò Trocker

Prospects of transformed model and practice. I. Evolution of the model of constitutional review (constitutional review in context) a. General constitutional set-up The Italian tradition of constitutionalism dates back to the nineteenth century, although its fundamental principles were fully established only in the aftermath of World War II. With regard to the nineteenth century, it is essential to draw a clear distinction between theory and practice. As far as theory is concerned, Italian culture had been very much influenced by the ideals of the French Revolution and contractarian theories at least since Napoleon’s campaigns. In practice, however, during the European Restoration, reference to constitutionalism was the key element in the struggle to achieve a limited government, a struggle which produced however only ephemeral political victories or, at most, compromises between traditional and constitutional points of view. These compromises formed the basis of the unitary state, as demonstrated by the fact that the first King of Italy was designated, in 1861, “by the grace of God and the will

ISTITUTO STORICO TOSCANO DELLA RESISTENZA E DELL’ETÀ CONTEMPORANEA ARCHIVI DI GIUSTIZIA E LIBERTÀ 1915 – 2012 Revisione a cura di Marta Bonsanti (giugno2018) Storia.

Conforti: Early Years and Priestly Formation Guido Conforti was the eighth of ten children of Rinaldo Conforti and Antonia Adorni. He was born on March 30 1865 at Casalora di Ravadese, in the midst of a fertile land of Parma, Italy. All the educational efforts undertaken by his parents geared toward a specific goal, dreamed by his father: to have his son be the future administrator of the farm and its properties. Guido attended the school of the Christian Brothers in Parma, and he could have very well been a successful manager. On the way to school, Guido developed the habit to stop in prayer in front of a huge Crucifix in the Church of Peace. There was an intense conversation among the two of them: ‘I looked at Him, and He looked at me, and it seemed he was telling me many things’ used to retell later Guido Conforti when he became bishop. In that meeting with the Crucifix, Guido felt called to the priesthood. We can just imagine the opposition of his father Rinaldo when Guido shared the news of entering the local seminary. But through the support he found in his mother, and the strength he received from his daily dialogues with the Crucifix, Guido seemed very determined. While in the Seminary, Guido lived an austere life, detached from his natural family, for seldom he received visits from his parents. But he was also experiencing some nervous related illness. He would pass out for a few hours, and he seemed out of breath. This almost precluded his priesthood ordination.

Her book intends to offer an academic reconstruction of the biography of Lelio Lagorio, a long-time Craxi stalwart and a lesser Socialist bigwig at the end of the First Republic. A pupil of jurist Piero Calamandrei, of whom he was an assistant in the School of Law at the University of Florence, and a staunch anti-Communist, Lagorio became a member of the Italian Socialist Party in 1955, joining the autonomist wing that referred to Pietro Nenni and advocated independence from the Communist Party. After briefly succeeding Giorgio La Pira as mayor of Florence for fewer than ten months between 1964 and 1965, he served as the city’s deputy mayor until 1969 and the first president of the Tuscany region from 1970 to 1978.
