During the summer months, every parish in the Archdiocese welcomes a missionary to speak at all the Masses for the Annual Mission Cooperative Appeal. This year, Father Mark Marangone will be our guest priest from the Xaverian Missionaries on July 24-25th. Please join me in warmly welcoming Father Mark to St. Jude Parish. Below is a little background on the Xaverian Missionaries: Archbishop Guido Maria Conforti, a bishop whose heart embraced the World, fulfilled his life- long dream to serve the mission of the Church by founding the Xaverian Missionaries on December 3, 1895, Feast day of St. Francis Xavier, our Patron Saint. On March 17, 1996, Pope John Paul II at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome proclaimed him a Blessed. On December 10, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI recognized a second miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Guido Maria Conforti and approved his canonization. The Holy Father proclaimed him a Saint on October 23, 2011, World Mission Sunday, at St. Peter’s in Rome. Today, over nine hundred Xaverian priests, brothers and sisters bring God’s love to people on every continent: Japan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines in Asia; Burundi, D.R. Congo, Cameroon, Chad, Morocco, Mozambique, and Sierra Leon in Africa; Brazil, Colombia and Mexico in Latin America; USA, Spain, UK and Italy. From the very beginning of our history, we have enjoyed the collaboration and cooperation of many friends and benefactors throughout the world. It is, however, the loyal support of generous friends in the United States, which enables us to increase and multiply our works of mercy. Whenever we have been able to build a church or a seminary, a school or a hospital, a youth center or a farming project, this has been made possible through the generous contributions of our friends and benefactors here in the States. These partners in mission are truly the ones who make possible the training of future local priests, brothers and sisters, who provide much needed medicines and facilitate the development of all the skills needed for missionary work. These friends and benefactors have consciously chosen to be with us as together we make the love of Jesus visible in every corner of the world. Ultimately, in all we do, our purpose is to facilitate the formation of “one human family” by enabling people to become agents of both their spiritual and material destinies through a commitment to Jesus’ commandment of love. You too, can SHARE in these mission efforts through your prayers, through your financial aid and through encouraging the youth in your home and parish to answer their call to be missionaries. Thank you for supporting, through our missionary activities, the MISSION OF THE CHURCH. Through your support you form, together with us, THE XAVERIAN FAMILY.
