Total potential
The Ukrainian part of the Danube Delta Region possesses significant renewable biomass resources. The total area of reed-beds is 439 km 2, 185 km 2 of which can be used in various ways.
In the existing conditions dry phytomass available annually for harvesting is up to 125 thousand tons. Case studies Vilkovo community

Recently local reed harvesting enterprises exported 1,200,000 bundles of reed, which is up to 10% of the global reed market.
During harvesting and sorting reed, the amount of generated waste is 30-50%.
Amount of waste reed is 3,000-7,000 tons per year.

There is a willow plantation of 20-30 hectars 6 at Orlovka The plantation includes 30,000 willow trees, yield is 1,114 t/yr.
To fully satisfy current wood need, total number of willow trees should be: 54,012.
