Watch Muzz's Tiny Desk January 29, 2021 For Immediate Release Watch Muzz’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert Muzz, the project of Paul Banks, Josh Kaufman, and Matt Barrick, present a Tiny Desk (Home) Concert filmed, recorded, and mixed by D. James Goodwin for NPR Music. They play four tracks from their self-titled debut, “a carefully crafted pastoral travelogue” (Pitchfork), released last summer on Matador. The cozy, mellow set is one of the two proper Muzz performances that exist, following their Kingston, NY performance of Arthur Russell’s “Nobody Wants A Lonely Heart” from their recently released Covers EP. Filmed after spending seven months apart, Banks in Edinburgh, Barrick in New York, and Kaufman in Philadelphia, it’s a charming glimpse into the trio’s reunion. Kaufman describes the filming to NPR Music: “At the very end of a long couple days of rehearsal and taping we, very late at night, Paul jet lagged and the rest plain exhausted, stayed awake a little longer to try a campfire style strum along to some of the songs from our new LP. The result here is our Tiny Desk. It means A LOT to us and we're totally honored to have Muzz be a part of this now legendary series. We also want to acknowledge the fact that it's a privilege for us to even be able to convene in person right now and were very happy that we could use that opportunity to share these stripped down, very human/intimate portraits with y'all.” Watch Muzz’s Tiny Desk (At Home) Concert Watch/Listen/Share Muzz album stream Stream/Purchase Muzz’s Covers EP “Knuckleduster” Video “Red Western Sky” Video "Broken Tambourine” Video “Summer Love” Video Praise for Muzz: “[Muzz] have made a great new album together." - NPR Music "a promising debut from three old friends who have an instinctive grasp of each other’s talents” - Pitchfork “Songs build around [Banks] with muted opulence; frequently deployed horns and organs color the margins without overwhelming the music’s essential fragility.” - New Yorker “A moody, melodic masterpiece” - SPIN “A surprisingly comfortable pastiche of the three artists’ distinct sounds, compounding the uneasiness of Interpol, the playfulness of The Walkmen, and the tranquil twang of BLH.” - Flood "the complex character of Muzz gradually unfurls into a terrifically cool album that should be wholly appreciated with repeated plays.” - Under The Radar Download Muzz Press Images and Album Art Instagram | Twitter | Facebook For more information, contact: Jessica Linker | Pitch Perfect PR - [email protected], 773-942-6954 .

2K Sports Rocks the Mound with Full Spectrum Soundtrack for Major League Baseball(R)2K7 February 22, 2007 7:31 AM ET The Stooges, Nirvana, Sublime, The Specials, The Pixies, Wolfmother and more redefine the sound of the sport for today's gamers NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2007--2K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: TTWO), today announced details regarding the soundtrack for Major League Baseball(R)2K7. Combing the best of the new breed of rockers from Wolfmother to The Walkmen, with some of the music industry's greatest alternative rock luminaries, the soundtrack brings a new sound to baseball for today's gamers. The soundtrack will be available exclusively in the game and streaming online at www.2ksports.com/mlb2k7. "Producing this soundtrack was like making a mix tape for a friend, especially considering the profile of the artists and the quality of the songs," said Tim Rosa, 2K Sports Director of Brand and Lifestyle Marketing. "We always seek to provide the sports gaming community with a soundtrack that makes sense for the game they are playing, while also showcasing great artists above and below the fringe. We achieved that goal with Major League Baseball 2K7, so I'm really proud of this one." Marking the first appearance on a video game soundtrack is Sublime's "Summertime," with the band joining other rock royalty such as Nirvana, The Pixies, The Specials and The Stooges. Also featured is a slew of burgeoning indie rock artists, including XL Records' Tapes 'n Tapes, who will be headlining the 2K Sports Hit-n-Run Tour that kicks off on April 16 to promote Major League Baseball 2K7.

Nouse Web Archives The Walkmen, Live at the Koko Club, London Page 1 of 2 News Comment MUSE. Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Muse › Music › News Features Reviews Playlists The Walkmen, Live at the Koko Club, London By Sara Sayeed Wednesday 11 October 2006 The Walkmen trundled on stage about an hour late – nonchalant, with sensible haircuts and lager bottles in hand, you could easily mistake them for slightly sozzled, fumbling techies. Then a guttural wail erupts from amidst the blazed stage, some guitars screech into place and it seems it’s finally started. The band soon launch into the notorious track, “Little House of Savages” which is arguably definitive of the Walkmen’s sound, both in tone and title: music that’s often savagely warped but also tentatively contained. The track propelled the Walkmen from the depths of the New York underground scene into the popular conciousness, when they played it on the little-known American soap, The O.C. Some of you may have come across the show’s indie-saturated soundtracks, on which “Little House of Savages” was included in its live version. A good decision on the producers’ part, since, live, the Walkmen’s music is infused with a compelling dynamism that is sometimes absent from the album versions. Hamilton Leithauser’s Dylan-on-acid voice is an instrument in itself; he screeches and croons with such a primal and ferocious intensity, it’s a wonder he doesn’t collapse or start spouting blood mid gig. But Leithauser isn’t the sole focus and is often upstaged by the frenzy of atomised guitars, bass and organ, not forgetting Matt Barrick who, for a weedy looking guy, not only bashes his drum kit with the savagery of a starving cannibal but manages to rhythmically ground and control what sometimes threatens to become a cacophonic jumble.

  • Thesis an Indie Hype Cycle Built for Two: a Case Study
THESIS AN INDIE HYPE CYCLE BUILT FOR TWO: A CASE STUDY OF THE PITCHFORK ALBUM REVIEWS OF ARCADE FIRE AND CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH Submitted by Samuel R. Ernst Department of Communication Studies In partial fulfillment of the requirements For the Degree of Master of Arts Colorado State University Fort Collins, Colorado Spring 2012 Master’s Committee: Advisor: Jonathan Lupo David Scott Diffrient Deborah Thompson ABSTRACT AN INDIE HYPE CYCLE BUILT FOR TWO: A CASE STUDY OF THE PITCHFORK ALBUM REVIEWS OF ARCADE FIRE AND CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH This thesis investigates the whims of critical reception in the indie rock world and its effects upon the hype cycle. I define the indie hype cycle as a naturalized communicative process governing the flow of critical favor within the indie music community and identify its four primary phases as entrance on to the scene, hype generation, backlash, and obscurity/visibility. To understand the interaction between the hype cycle and critical reception, the project focuses on Arcade Fire and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (CYHSY) as two bands emblematic of the critical divergence possible after initial success. It compares the reviews of the bands’ debut and sophomore albums by Pitchfork, a prominent indie music website, and identifies genre, elitism, and authenticity as key constructs in the way the site frames the bands as indie, and thus, worthy of praise. I argue that an economy of authenticity—featuring emotional, economic, and talent- based forms—affects the indie hype cycle in a variety of ways. The thesis concludes that the mechanics of indie music criticism have extensive influence upon the indie hype cycle.
