Dear Ms. McMullen,

I would like to be considered as a new, at-large member for the Area Council of Governments’ Air Quality Technical Committee. I feel that I fit best in the ‘environmental interest community’. As a representative, I would provide value in reaching a broader audience through the UCCS community to assist informing and implementing proactive measures to maintain our regions compliance with the EPA Clean Air Act. Our students, faculty and staff live everywhere from Pueblo to , Falcon to Woodland Park, and throughout all of Colorado Springs. Through this range of representation in the PPACG counties, our UCCS community could be one piece of the puzzle to spread awareness of the implications of not protecting our regional air quality.

Along with our broad reach through communication efforts, I have had the opportunity to work with student volunteer interns on our Ozone Garden since 2015 in the UCCS Office of Sustainability. Through our citizen science data collection, we report our findings to NCAR as part of an international network of Ozone Gardens. As of this past year, we received grant funding to install an ozone monitoring station. The current volunteer Ozone Garden intern worked this summer on the garden and created lesson plans to encourage more engagement with our air quality. She is continuing her internship for the fall semester and will be updating our website and assisting in the connection of data from our monitoring station to NCAR.

As you will read in my resume, I have been connected professionally in the environmental and sustainability field since 2008. I received my Master of Environmental Planning and Design in 2014 and have worked closely with cities and regions on various projects that positively impact their communities. With this experience and strong ability to collaborate, I will be an asset to the PPACG AQTC.

Thank you for the consideration.

Sincerely,

Kimberly

PPACG Air Quality Technical Committee:

I am interested in being considered for an at-large position on the Air Quality Technical Committee as a representative of the environmental interest community. Sharon Thompson, Fountain City Councilwoman directed me to the vacancy.

I would like to represent the El Paso County and Fountain, Colorado community and beyond. Air quality affects the state, the US, and the world.

My residence is Fountain, Colorado and I have been in the Pikes Peak region since 2000. Currently, I am an un-employed equipment operator out of the International Operating Engineers Union. I have been in this profession since 2013. Also have 20-years’ experience in railroad track maintenance, customer service, risk and safety and purchasing. I am active in the Climate Reality Program and volunteer at the Pikes Peak Historical Street Railway Foundation. I have three teen aged grand children who are my motivation in the environmental sector.

I am highly energetic and have contacts with the local environmental community. I do not have a technical background, but I do have an interest.

Thank you for your consideration,

PPACG Air Quality Technical Committee Attn: Jessica McMullen

Dear Ms. McMullen:

Please accept this letter as my application for a position on the PPACG Air Quality Technical Committee. I am a retired Professor of geography at UCCS. My areas of teaching and research have included several areas of physical geography, teaching climate related topics, as well as other environmental subjects. I've written several books and journal articles, many of which deal with environmental issues in Colorado. Obviously, I would be representing the environmental interest side of issues.

I also would like to know from you how many, when, and how long meetings will be. Also, I assume there will be other time commitments that are required.

I have included a short biography and my current curriculum vitae.

Best wishes,

Tom was a University of Colorado President’s Teaching Scholar, the highest award given to faculty for teaching and research at the University of Colorado, while his research interests focused on Colorado and the West. Dear Mrs Bailey and Mrs McMullen,

My name is Lindsay Facknitz and I would like put my name forward as a candidate for the PPACG Air Quality Technical Committee as a representative for the local environmental community.

I have been a member of the Colorado Springs Beyond Coal Sierra Club since January of 2019 and also the chairwoman of the Environmental Initiative, started in Nov 2019. I have also informally been a part of the monthly “Sustain-a-peeps” meeting since 2019 and am honored to be connected to all the local environmental leaders and city staff who attend.

Working primarily with the Beyond Coal group (now renamed “Beyond Carbon”), I have been a part of the local air quality conversation and believe passionately in the organizing, education, advocacy of clean air for the Pikes Peak region. While advocating for the closure of the Drake Coal plant and CSU making an aggressive transition to renewable energy during the EIRP process, I very much enjoyed meeting and working with CSU staff, City Council, local environmental leaders and the community at large. It was thrilling to be on the call when the CSU board voted for the most aggressive renewable energy portfolio. A historic win for clean air in the Pikes Peak region!

At this time, I’m continuing my work with Beyond Carbon and am now focused on transportation and its impacts on clean air and climate change. This continual advocacy work keeps me in contact with CSU staff, city leadership, local groups, and state mandates on clean air and transitioning transportation to electrification. I would like to continue to strengthen our local clean air efforts by joining the AQTC to help with all listed expectations of PPACG’s AQTC members; compliance regulations, air pollution reduction strategies, new ideas for PPACG and AQTC action and public involvement, regional perspective and broad-based, inclusive committee environment.

As for more personal qualifications, I have lived in Colorado Springs for 20 years, am a Colorado College graduate with a BA in Music and Masters in Education. I am married with two children and have been a Montessori preschool teacher, music teacher, and songwriter for most of the past 15 years. As a sufferer of asthma with a 3 year old son with the same affliction, I believe in clean air for all.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to the possibility of working with you and the AQTC in the future.

Please let me know if you have any questions or needs.

Sincerely, Lindsay Facknitz

Hello Jessica,

I would like to be considered for the business community at large seat on the Air Quality Technical Committee.

I have attached my resume, and would like to note that I have served on a PPACG committee. Back in the mid 2000s I served 2 terms on the PPACG Citizens Advisory Committee. During that time we were fortunate enough to have been of high enough air quality for long enough to qualify to eliminate the automotive emissions testing. I have worked in manufacturing organizations pretty much my entire career dealing with the demise of chlorofluorolcarbons as a degreasing agent, and industrial painting moving to powder coating.

If I can provide any more information that would support my candidacy, please let me know.

Regards,
