The novel morphology of gemma in Marchantia pinnata Steph., an endemic species to east Asia, is reported for the first time. The outer shape of gemma is gourd-like with maximum width ca. 250 µm and length ca. 350 µm. The surface is not smooth due to the swelling of the cells. The margin of gemmae is never entire due to mammillose and with several papillae on marginal cells. The two apical notches have no mucilage hairs. These morphologies are widely different from those of a com- mon species, M. polymorpha subsp. ruderalis with larger and nearly circular in outer shape, entire margin and mucilage hairs in notches. Morphological characters of gemmae might be useful for the identification of Marchantia species. This study was conducted to explore the diversity of Marchantia in Mount Sibayak North Sumatra, Indonesia. Altogether, seven species of Marchantia are found in Mount Sibayak North Sumatra, of which five are previously known (Marchantia acaulis , M. emarginata , M. geminata , M. paleacea , and M. treubii ), while one is as new species record (M. polymorpha ) for Sumatra, and one species has not been identified ( Marchantia sp. ). An identification key to the species of Marchantia from Sumatra is provided. Among them is M. hemisphaerica L., a species now referred to the genus Reboulia Raddi (1818), as R. hemisphaerica (L.) Raddi. As this name appears to be untypified, a typification is undertaken here. In the present investigations a total of 41 taxa of Bryophytes distributed under 34 genera and 23 families have been recorded. Of these, the mosses are represented by 23 species of 20 genera and 14 families, while Liverworts are represented by 15 species of 12 genera and 8 families. Hornworts are represented by 3 species of 2 genus belonging to 1 family. The present study reveals that Bryaceae, Dicranaceae, Aytoniaceae, Marchantiaceae, Funariaceae and Anthocerotaceae are dominant families in the study area. Ecological surveys and Assessments Lake Van Norden Special-status Plant Survey Executive Summary This report presents the results of the focused botanical survey for vascular special-status plants at the proposed Lake Van Norden Dam Spillway Modification Project (proposed project). A complete pedestrian survey of the approximately 160 acre botanical survey area was conducted on June 16th and 17th 2015. The survey generally complied with the botanical survey guidelines of the California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG), the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), but differed from these protocols in that a survey of the aquatic habitat was also conducted. The aquatic survey followed guidelines outlined in Aquatic Plant Sampling Protocols: Publication No. 01-03-017 produced by the Washington State Department of Ecology (Parsons 2001). Pre-field research was conducted to select special-status plant species with potential to be found within the survey area. The list of potentially occurring special-status plants was derived from several sources including the California Natural Diversity Database, the CNPS On-line Inventory, and the California Consortium of Herbaria. Twenty-three special-status plant species, including nineteen vascular plants and four non-vascular plants (one liverwort and three mosses) were determined to have potential to occur within the survey area based on habitat preferences and known distribution. -

In the past several years, the application of molecular methods to the unraveling of liverwort phylogeny has generated new insights into their evolutionary history and revolutionized their classification. There has been no available substantial sequence of liverworts so far and molecular approach in identifying complex liverworts species was still a challenge. This study is the first attempt to identify and classify the liverworts from Imugan Falls, Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines by molecular approach. The liverworts were collected through transect walk along falls and after initial identification using morphological characterization, the genomic DNA of liverworts were extracted and amplified using rbcL, and then PCR products were purified and were sequenced. -

This serves as the first detailed taxonomic study of the group in Sri Lanka. Specimens were collected from different geographical regions covering almost all topographic and climatic zones of the country. This study revealed 9 genera of complex thalloid liverworts in Sri Lanka. Based on our collections and identifications we prepared a generic key to Sri Lankan complex thalloid liverworts.
