In Their Own Words 14 MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY:

As it has for many organizations, 2020 has created several challenges for the SMU Athletics Department. When the American Athletic Conference canceled all spring sport championships, we saw and felt the gravity of the pandemic and the responsibility we had to protect the health, safety and well-being of our 484 student-athletes. I am proud to say that, nine months on, we have worked tirelessly to that end, overhauling many of our operations to create the safest possible environment for our student-athletes to learn, train and compete.

Increasing our health and safety measures has not come without a cost, however. Reducing the capacity of Ford Stadium and to promote social distancing has created a significant shortfall in ticket and suite sales, parking, concessions and other revenue streams that we have come to rely upon. Additionally, we have experienced a reduction in donations tied to the purchase of season tickets. The full budgetary impact of regularly testing our student-athletes and other necessary enhancements in response to the pandemic is still to be determined. With your investment, however, we can position ourselves for a strong return and a successful future. Our student-athletes need your support as they pursue championships and, ultimately, a college degree in a very different environment.

Mustangs have always been resilient, but this year, we need your help and generosity more than ever before. With your support, we will continue to create opportunities for young people as SMU has done throughout its history. I invite you to contact me with questions on the direction of SMU Athletics. We believe the future is bright, and we are thankful for your investment in our mission of Shaping Champions.

Go and Pony Up!

PRIORITY RANKINGS The priority ranking system is used to award and allocate tickets for high-demand events such as championships, post-season tournaments, bowl games, away competitions and amenities such as luxury suites, premium seating, parking and hospitality accommodations. All season ticket holders and Mustang Club donors have a priority ranking determined by their giving level and number of priority points. Priority points are earned through donations, ticket purchases, attendance at athletic events and the longevity of your support of SMU Athletics. A donor’s ranking is determined by your giving level first, and then by priority points within that giving level. To increase your rank, you are encouraged to give at the ighesth level possible, as giving level is prioritized over points. NEW – Mustang Club priority rankings will now be calculated year-round to ensure your priority ranking is up-to-date for ticket allocation and other donor benefits! Additionally, there are now new ways to earn priority points and increased points for certain categories. NEW THIS YEAR! UPDATED PRIORITY POINT SYSTEM

8 SHAPING CHAMPIONS | 2019-20 SMU ATHLETICS NEW THIS YEAR! CLEARER VISUALIZATION OF YOUR DONATION The SMU Department of Athletics has created a new benefit to further promote a clearer visualization of donors’ giving through the creation of two new funds. The Football Seat Premium Fund (FSPF) and the Men’s Basketball Seat Premium Fund (MBSPF) will now house donations for the purpose of purchasing season tickets to those sports. Previously, the Mustang Athletic Fund (MAF) – the department’s annual fund – stored both annual fund gifts and required seat donations for football and men’s basketball season tickets. With the creation of the FSPF and MBSPF, donation dollars will now be separated into the appropriate funds (when applicable) to more accurately reflect the purpose of each gift. The FSPF and the MBSPF are 0% tax-deductible, and the Mustang Athletic Fund is now a 100% tax-deductible annual fund. This change can be seen on your online account.

EXAMPLE Joe Mustang has season tickets for both football and men’s basketball. In March 2020, he donated $1,000 to the Mustang Athletic Fund. His required seat donation for football season tickets is $250. His required seat donation for men’s basketball season tickets is $500. Under the new set up, his giving would appear in his online account as follows: Football Seat Premium Fund: $250 Men’s Basketball Seat Premium Fund: $500 Mustang Athletic Fund: $250 This change eliminates the co-mingling of charitable and non- charitable donations and more simply displays to our donors which donation dollars are for the purpose for purchasing tickets and which donation dollars are fully philanthropic.
