The soundtrack of hell-enhancing festival folk tunes, the back room roaring and bar room brawls, escaping to a bright future, getting to know the world you know, or just a damn good night. If Nashville were in Somerset, Billy's Lowground would be one of his leading lights. So let's raise a glass of cider (with a bourbon chaser for good measure) on the Nashtonbury stage, it may only contain one band, but that's the beginning, isn't it? dancing about the architecture of the music blog It's always hard to describe a band that plays their own original material... Billy's Lowground often shoes horned in pigeon burrow folk rock, mainly because they amplify the 6-piece with a variety of Irish influence courtesy of violin player Ruth Behan, but the sound is constantly evolving, including elements of country, rock, and yes, maybe even folk! Comparisons have often been made with Waterboys and Levellers, but there is a distinctive tone billy in Lowground is all their own... many changes in the line-up over the years have strengthened the group, as each new member brings something new to the mix. Since they formed in 1991, they have played hundreds of concerts in venues small and large across the UK, as well as countless festivals including Glastonbury, Ashton Court, Village Pump, Bearded Theory, Summer Breeze, Pontardawe International Folk, Larmer Tree, Off the Tracks, Lechlade, Landed and Farmfest. They also supported many famous acts including John Otway, Shane McGowan and The Pope, Rock Salt and Nails, Men They Couldn't Hang, Norma Waterson and Martin Carty, Oysterband, Rory McCloud, Wurzels, Chas and Dave and Fairport Convention.
