Wenn unmittelbar vor Spielbeginn das Hallenlicht erlischt und im Lichterglanz unzähliger Taschenlampen die Spieler – angeführt von Maskottchen Hein Daddel und Mannschaftskapi- tän Stefan Lövgren - zu den Klängen der THW-Hymne auflaufen, dann verspüren selbst „alte Handball-Hasen“ eine Gänsehaut. Seit dem Um- und Ausbau der Ostseehalle vor der Saison 2001/2002 können nun knapp 10.000 Zuschauern den THW Kiel live erleben und feiern. Auch in der kommenden Saison sind nahezu alle Plätze von Dauerkarteninhabern besetzt, so daß nach wie vor der Wunsch vieler THW-Fans, ihre Zebras nur einmal live zu erleben, unerfüllt bleiben muß. In keiner Sportart in Deutsch- land gibt es eine vergleichbare Saisonkartenauslastung. Doch die Erfolge des THW Kiel kommen nicht von ungefähr. Die Voraussetzung für sportliche Erfolge ist harte Arbeit.

Trotz erheblicher Verletzungsprobleme hat die Mannschaft in den zurückliegenden 14 Monaten alles gewonnen, was man im Handballuniversum gewinnen kann: Meisterschaft, DHB-Pokal, Super Globe und die Champions League. Doch ein Fan ist auch nur ein Mensch und er denkt nicht im Monats-, sondern im Saisonrhythmus. Das ist verständlich. Es ist schon etwas sehr Außergewöhnliches, wenn der THW Kiel sich geschlagen geben muss. Vor allem vor eigenem Publikum. Und so soll es auch bleiben. Gefahr in Verzug // 2010/2011 drohte als die Saison ohne Titel in die // Zwei Titel und die direkte Qualifikation Geschichte einzugehen. Ein absolutes Novum für alle Spieler, Betreuer für die Champions League – war wirklich und Fans. Weder Welthandballer Filip Jicha, noch irgendein anderer nicht mehr drin? // wollte mit leeren Händen den letzten Pfiff der Saison vernehmen. Sie bäumten sich auf und besiegten im Finale des DHB-Pokals nicht nur souverän den Erzrivalen Flensburg Handewitt, sondern auch alle Zweifel am eigenen Können.
