    Línea de Transmisión Eléctrica 230 kV del Proyecto SIEPAC-Tramo Nicaragua Estudio de Impacto Ambiental TRAMO 2: COMARCA EL MARIMBERO HASTA COMARCA EL CACAO (LA PAZ CENTRO) MEDIO ABIÓTICO El sector norte del tramo se localiza en el Departamento de Chinandega, entre el río Aquespalapa y la Cordillera de Los Maribios. El resto de la superficie del tramo (hasta La Paz Centro) se localiza en el Departamento de León. Este tramo se encuentra inmerso en la Zona de Vida Bosque Seco Tropical. Esta Zona de Vida presenta un clima subhúmedo y cálido, con precipitaciones entre 1.000 y 2.000 mm al año (con cinco meses secos bien marcados) y un promedio de temperatura de 28º C. El relieve es mayormente plano en toda su extensión. El Bosque Seco Tropical ha sido totalmente despojado de su vegetación original, observándose un paisaje en su mayor parte abierto, con actividades agrícolas y ganaderas. A lo largo de todo el tramo el paisaje es dominado por cultivos y ganadería, sin embargo quedan algunos fragmentos de los ecosistemas que debieron existir en forma natural: Bosque tropical semideciduo latifoliado aluvial de galería, Deslizamiento de rocas con escasa vegetación y sabanas graminoides cortos de arbustos decíduos. a. Marco geológico local Este tramo afloran muy cerca del Puerto Sandino las rocas pertenecientes al Grupo Coyol Superior conformado por rocas ígneas volcánicas o extrusivas, entre las principales están las ignimbritas, tobas dacíticas, brechas volcánicas, flujos de lavas andesíticos y basálticos que se originaron durante el pleistoceno. Más hacia la costa Pacífica afloran rocas pertenecientes a la Formación El Fraile y hacia el centro el Grupo volcánico El Tamarindo.

In response to the request of the dialogue table participants, ASOCHIVIDA (Asociación Chichigalpa por la Vida) and NSEL (Nicaragua Sugar Estates Limited), the Office of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) - members of the World Bank Group - has considered important to carry out an updated medical needs assessment in the treatment of Chronic Renal Insufficiency in the Chichigalpa Health Center in order to verify current needs and resources, and to identify new gaps in the provision of medical services to CRI patients. In this regard, the purpose of this assessment is to provide up to date information to MINSA, INSS, PAHO/WHO, NSEL and ASOCHIVIDA on medical services to CRI patients in Chichigalpa, as well as participatory and collaborative medical service planning and coordination. This situation is a challenge for health development and therefore for quality of care provided to these people, which is why we emphasize the relevance of this assessment, both in the awareness of the problem and in the provision of alternative solutions for strengthening the services network to deal with this epidemic.

    Public Health Surveillance after a Volcanic Eruption: Lessons from Cerro Negro, Nicaragua, 1992l JOSEPHINEMALILAY,~ MARIANA GUIDO REAL,~ ALVARO RAM~REZVANEGAS: ERIC NOJI,~ & THOMAS SINKS* 444 The eruption of the Cerro Negro volcano near Lebn, Nicaragua, on 9 April 1992 distributed an estimated 1.7 million tons of ash over a 200 square kilometer area. An assessment was con- ducted to evaluate the health efjCectson approximately 300 000 residents, using routine data obtained by the national epidemiologic surveillance system. It was found that rates of visits to health care facilities for acute diarrhea1 and respiratory illnesses increased in two study com- munities, one within and one near the disaster zone. Specifically, visits for acute diarrhea were nearly 6 times more numerous than before the eruption in both communities, while visits for acute respiratory diseases were 3.6 times morefvequent in Malpaisillo (the community near the disaster zone) and 6.0 rimes morefiequent in Telica (the community within it). Most of the visits were for infants and children less than 5 years old. Increased diarrhea1 disease morbidity, which commonly occurs after volcanic eruptions, de- mands detailed investigation of the type and quality of water supplies following heavy ashfall. Ash-related respiratory problemsshould be further examined to determine the spectrum of such diseases and the timing of illness onsets among infants and other special population sub- groups. Data collected on health conditions before and after an eruption by passive surveillance can be used to detect eruption-related morbidity. Systems already in place, such as Nicaragua’s national epidemiologic surveillance system, can be modified or extended so as to increasetheir sensitivity to new cases and hencetheir ability to provide appropriate not&ation to medical relief agencies.

    DREF final report Nicaragua: Floods DREF operation n° MDRNI004 GLIDE n° FL-2011-000166-NIC 27 September 2012 The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) is a source of un-earmarked money created by the Federation in 1985 to ensure that immediate financial support is available for Red Cross Red Crescent response to emergencies. The DREF is a vital part of the International Federation’s disaster response system and increases the ability of National Societies to respond to disasters. Summary: 235,352 Swiss francs were allocated from the IFRC’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) on 26 October 2011 to support the Nicaraguan Red Cross (NRC) in delivering assistance to some 5,000 beneficiaries. The operation closed with a total expenditure of 195,926 Swiss francs, with a final balance of 39,426 Swiss francs unspent and returned to the DREF fund. After a low pressure system and the remnants of Tropical Depression 12-E passed through Nicaragua, affecting an estimated 28,000 persons, the National Society launched a plan of action and requested support from different partners. In December 2011, the Nicaraguan Red Cross (NRC) distributed relief items to the families affected by At the end of their relief operations, 2,876 families Tropical Depression 12-E. Source: NRC (13,560 persons) had received assistance, of which 1,250 families (5,398 persons) were reached with the direct support of the DREF. All families were assisted with food parcels and relief items such as hygiene kits, kitchen sets, blankets, tarpaulins and jerry cans.

    SINGLENESS AND THE STATE: UNMARRIED AND WIDOWED WOMEN IN GUADALAJARA, MEXICO, 1821-1910 By Andrea Vicente A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY History 2012 ABSTRACT SINGLENESS AND THE STATE: UNMARRIED AND WIDOWED WOMEN IN GUADALAJARA, MEXICO, 1821-1910 By Andrea Vicente This is a study of women who lived without men between 1821 and 1910 in Guadalajara Mexico. In these years single and widowed women consistently outnumbered men in the city. I argue that disproportionate sex ratios created obstacles to legal marriage at a time when Mexican political leaders and reformers promoted marriage and motherhood as an important, idealized part of a solution to political instability in the aftermath of Independence in 1821. The same liberal political philosophies that motivated the fight for national Independence, promoted new economic and social reforms that displaced rural peasants forcing many to seek employment in cities. It was a trend that added to the demographic growth and industrialization of Guadalajara and created a growing class of poor urban workers. Among these new migrants were women who arrived to the city widowed and single. Some women never married, or remarried. Others lived in consensual unions and mothered illegitimate children. City officials grew anxious over the presence of unmarried working women who lived outside the boundaries of traditional marriage and patriarchal control. Increasingly, politicians, clergymen, women’s magazines, police and judges of various political stripes debated the role of unmarried women in their efforts to reform what they believed to be the wayward lifestyle that typified the urban poor.

    Caracterización Municipal de Camoapa FICHA MUNICPAL Nombre del Municipio CAMOAPA Nombre del Boaco Departamento Fecha de Fundación Fue fundada el 23 de agosto de 1858. El territorio de Camoapa está ubicado entre las coordenadas 12° 23´ Posición Geográfica de latitud norte y 85° 30´ de longitud oeste. Norte : Con los Municipios de Boaco, Matiguás y Paiwas. Sur : Con Cuapa y Comalapa. Límites Este : Con los Municipios del Rama y La Libertad. Oeste: Con los Municipios de San Lorenzo y Boaco. Extensión Territorial La extensión territorial es de 1,483.29 Km2. El clima es variado, su temperatura promedio anual es de 25.2 grados centígrados, y en algunos períodos logra descender 23° centígrados. Clima y Precipitación La precipitación pluvial alcanza desde los 1200 hasta los 2000 milímetros en el año, sobre todo en la parte noroeste del Municipio. La densidad poblacional Total es de 28 habitantes /Km2. Densidad Poblacional La densidad poblacional Rural es de 16 habitantes /Km2. La densidad poblacional Urbana es de 12 habitantes / Km2. El paisaje se encuentra caracterizado por un relieve ondulado Características ocupado principalmente por áreas cubiertas de pastizales con árboles Orográficas del Relieve aislados.
