3 1 Course Venue

The course will be hosted at Technische Universit¨at(TU) . With approx. 28,000 students, TU Berlin is one of the largest technical universities in Germany. It has a long tradition of research in science and engineering, reaching back to 1799. The TU campus is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport from anywhere within the city.

Course Location The course will take place in the classroom

Berlin Berlin, Germany’s capital, is a vibrant cosmopolitan city, offering a wide range of cultural and touristic attractions. Berlin is a green city, with rivers and canals, and is particularly enjoyable in spring and summer. For further information on Berlin, check http://www.visitberlin.de.

2 Travel Information

Berlin is centrally located within Europe and with its excellent train and flight con- nections is easily reachable.

Airports • Tegel (TXL) Tegel Airport is close to TU Berlin. To get to the TU campus take the airport shuttle bus (X9) to Ernst-Reuter-Platz (15 minutes) or a taxi (10 minutes).

• Sch¨onefeld(SXF) Airport Sch¨onefeldis located about 30 km away from TU Berlin, so a taxi is

quite expensive unless you share the costs. To get to the TU campus take the Airport Express train (RB 14, RE 7) to Zoologischer Garten (ca. 30 minutes) or take S-Bahn S9 to Ostkreuz and change to S5, S3 or S7 to Tiergarten or Zoologischer Garten (ca. 50 minutes). You need to buy an ABC ticket.

Travelling by Train See www.bahn.de for train connections to Berlin. From the central station (Haupt- bahnhof) take S-Bahn (S5, S7, S75, S9) to Tiergarten or Zoologischer Garten (5 min- utes).

Public Transport in Berlin Berlin has a large and efficient public transport network, see Fig. 5. See www.bvg.de for connections and available ticket options. The closest stations to the TU campus are • By bus: 245, X9, M45 (”Ernst-Reuter-Platz”) • By U-Bahn: U2 (”Ernst-Reuter-Platz”)

• By S-Bahn: S5, S7, S75, S9 (”Tiergarten”)

3 Accommodation

Below is a list of hostels and hotels, of which all are in the vicinity of the TU Berlin campus. Since the TU campus is easily accessible by public transport, you can also choose to stay in a hotel in other parts of the city. Please, note that at the time of the course the congress ”Wasser Berlin International” will be held close to campus.

Therefore, we recommend you to book your accommodation as early as possible. Also, given the short-term duration of the course, the university is not able to provide student accommodation to the participants.
