In that time, more than 500 families have benefited from plates and bowls, saran wrap the serenity that Emmett’s Place offers. and aluminum foil. For more information, please contact his unique space is dedicated to the the MVH Foundation at memory of Emmett Sorensen who 937-208-2700. was born prematurely at MVH but passed away shortly after his birth. THis parents, Dr. Derek and Emily Sorensen, wanted to ensure that his short life has a lasting impact on others. They decided to honor and remember Emmett by establishing a special space for families to be together during a hospital stay.

Miami Valley Hospital Foundation joined with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Dayton, the Sorensen Family, the McAfee Family, Ed Blake and Karin Spicer and the Berry Family Foundation, to make the project a reality. The Ronald McDonald Family Room, located inside Emmett’s Place, is a quiet and restful space that serves perinatal mothers and the families of NICU babies, providing light meals, snacks and laundry facilities. The space also includes Abby’s Nook, a special place for kids to read, color and play games.

Emmett’s Place is funded entirely by donors. The MVH Foundation is seeking funding to provide staffing - through the Ronald McDonald House Charities - to supervise and assist the families using the facility seven days a week, twelve hours a day.

Emmett’s Place provides a safe and comforting area at MVH for families to gather, relax and have a sense of normalcy together. With the generous help of donors, the families of NICU babies will be able to continue to enjoy precious time together at Emmett’s Place for many years to come. 6 INSIGHT Miami Valley Hospital Foundation Winter 2018 MVH Patient Programs Enhanced by Generous Community Fundraisers Each year, local not-for-profit groups hold special events to raise funds for many important causes. Several of these groups donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit patient programs and services at MVH. “We want to thank these very special groups and their generous sponsors for donating event proceeds in support of patients at Miami Valley Hospital,” said MVH Foundation President Jenny Lewis. “We are truly grateful for their commitment and generosity.”

Donors Gifts to Provide Original Art Pieces for New Center

A notable event took place at MVH South in July when a specially-invited group of donors attended an exclusive preview of artwork available for sponsorship to be placed in the new Joint and Spine Center. Attendees had the opportunity to see samples of artwork and speak with many of the artists who will display their original works in the new building.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to showcase the work of so many talented local artists in this wonderful new building,” said MVH President Jenny Lewis. “Our donors will make it possible to provide a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere for all who will visit here.”

If you would like to be part of this special project, many art pieces are still available for support. Donor opportunities are also available for the interfaith chapel and the sports complex at MVH South.
