The News Bulletin of the International Tennis Federation www.itftennis.com Unstoppable Czechs win Hopman Cup Petra Kvitova and Tomas Berdych won the Hyundai Hopman Cup title for Czech Republic after recording a 2-0 triumph over France in Saturday’s final at the Burswood Dome in Perth. Kvitova opened the tie with a 75 61 win against Marion Bartoli before Berdych sealed victory by defeating Richard Gasquet 76(0) 64. The two Czech players, ranked No. 2 and No. 7 in the world respectively, remained unbeaten in singles play throughout the tournament. “It’s really good to win at the beginning of the season and of course I have to say Tomas Berdych (CZE) and Petra thank you to Tomas because without him we wouldn’t win,” said Kvitova. Countdown to the Australian Open The 2012 Australian Open gets underway in just a week’s time with the world’s top players heading to Melbourne for the first Grand Slam of the year. Ashleigh Barty (AUS), Casey Dellacqua (AUS), Madison Keys (USA), Aravane Rezai (FRA), Olivia Rogowska (AUS) have already been announced as the women’s wild cards. Men’s wild cards so far announced are Jeremy Chardy (FRA), James Duckworth (AUS), Lleyton Hewitt (AUS), Jesse Levine (USA), Marinko Matosevic (AUS) and Ben Mitchell (AUS). The events will determine which nations advance to the World Group II Play-Offs, to be played 21-22 April, and which nations will be relegated to Group II competition for 2013. Two teams will progress from Europe/Africa Group I and one from Americas Group I and Asia/Oceania Group I. In the 14&U team the selected players are Djeri Jakara Raymond (ANT), Daniela Corina Obando Maldonado (HON), Atilio Jose Flores Castro (ESA) and Eduardo Jose Camacho Trevino ( CRC). They will be accompanied by coach John Goede (SUR) and will compete in tournaments from 16 January to 12 February in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. In the 18&U team, Victoria Rodriguez (MEX), Alejandra Cisneros (MEX), Simone Pratt (BAH) and Yolimar Ogando (PUR) have been invited to participate, accompanied by coach Guillermo Stevens (MEX). They will be playing in Grade 1 and Grade 2 events from 2 January to 28 January in Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador. TO JOIN THE AUSTRALIAN DAVIS CUP TENNIS FOUNDATION A.B.N. 90 004 905 060 Foundation President, Neale Fraser, AO MBE says “Join me in supporting a brighter future for Australian Tennis.” ABOUT THE FOUNDATION The Australian Davis Cup Tennis Foundation was formed in September 1971 with the objective of providing financial assistance towards the cost of sending Australia’s team overseas for Davis Cup matches. Over the years, a policy has emerged of funding the development of young Australian players, showing Davis Cup potential, by direct player or official team assistance or, as currently, by financial support for selected Player Development Programs of Tennis Australia. Within the above policy the Foundation has given financial support to individual players, squads, official teams, player development programmes, Satellite circuits, Futures and Challenger events in excess of $1,900,000. Such financial support has significantly upgraded the status of these circuits, events, and programmes. Currently, the Foundation has around 1800 members from all Australian States and Territories and the following countries: New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, France, Switzerland, Malaysia, Singapore, Netherlands and Thailand. The membership fee entitles members to apply for "Priority Access" to purchase a limited number of tickets for the Australian Open. Members may also purchase tickets for all Davis Cup ties being played in Australia and, wherever possible, join a touring party to overseas Davis Cup ties. All members will receive an informative 'Members Newsletter' on at least three occasions each year. The Foundation invites new members to help increase our financial assistance to the development of young Australian players.

Här saknas tyvärr sammandrag av studenternas uppsatser, vilket är tråkigt. Förhoppningsvis tillfälligt! Jag inleder med lite tennis- och bokmässereflektioner för att sedan komma över på innehållet i denna utgåva plus lite allmän information. Jag har i vanlig ordning (55:e gången i rad) bevakat Swedish Open i tennis under en het sommarvecka i juli. Den turneringen, som är världens äldsta på elitnivå som fortfarande spelas, är en spegel mot den internationella tennisvärlden. Nu stundar snart Stockholm
