St Ninian’s Cathedral, North Methven Street Perth’s A-listed Cathedral, built in 1849, was designed by renowned architect William Butterfield and was the first Anglican Cathedral to be built in Britain since the Reformation. Visitors will be warmly welcomed in to enjoy its notable architecture, stained glass windows and sculptures. The Cathedral will be decorated for Harvest and many of its treasures will also be on display. St Leonard’s in the Fields Church, Marshall Place This impressive Scots Gothic church and hall (1885) by John James Stevenson , dominates views of Perth from the South Inch. The distinctive Crown Tower is probably the first such tower in post-Reformation Scotland. Guided introductions throughout Doors Open Days. Built in the mid-1970s, Perth Community Fire Station provides cover for Perth and the wider Perthshire area and is the only station in Perth and Kinross crewed by around eighty full-time fire fighters, operating with three fire engines, a heavy rescue unit, a technical rescue vehicle and a boat. Perth Community Fire Station hosts the Perth Training College which is part of the national Scottish Fire and Rescue Service training structure and delivers scenario training for fire fighters including simulations of building collapse, compartment fires and road traffic collisions. 22. Cleish Parish Church There has been a church on this site since the 13th century. In 1775, the church was rebuilt to a design by the influential and local architect John Adam. Following a fire in 1832, the present church by McIntosh was built in its place. 21. Wash House and Well, off Main Street, It is just over 150 years since the wash house was first opened next to the well. Both were designed by the eminent architect David Bryce as part of a scheme to enhance the village. 27. Cultybraggan Camp, Comrie Cultybraggan Camp, the only preserved POW camp in Scotland, was built in 1941 to hold 4,000 German Prisoners. Post-war it was used as a military training facility and was purchased by Comrie in 2007. DOORS OPEN DAYS 2016 | 15 39. HMP Castle Huntly, 40. The Museum and Round Tower of Abernethy HMP Castle Huntly is a 600-year old castle that was once the seat of the Bowes-Lyons.
