Successsummer 2017 END-OF-YEAR LETTER FROM A publication by Collier County Public Schools CCPS SuccessSummer 2017 END-OF-YEAR LETTER FROM Dr. Kamela Patton As the 2016-17 school year comes to a close, I would like to reflect on all that we have accomplished together at Collier County Public Schools (CCPS). The end of the year is an extremely special time for students, especially our graduating seniors. Last year, seniors were celebrated throughout the District before walking across the stage and receiving their diploma by participating in Graduation Walks at two local elementary schools. High school Dr. Kamela Patton seniors donned their caps and gowns and walked through their former elementary schools, receiving wild cheers Superintendent and applause from elementary students. Seeing the excitement from both sets of students, the District expanded this program to include all of our high schools and more elementary schools. It is important that seniors are District School Board celebrated and our young students are inspired to see what their future could hold. of Collier County Roy M. Terry, Chair Another new way we are celebrating seniors is through Academic Signing Days. As you know, Athletic Signing Erika Donalds, Vice Chair Days are probably one of the most important days for a student athlete. There is a sense of pride that comes Erick Carter, Member with a student signing that letter of intent and receiving recognition for his/her achievements. In the same vein, Kelly Lichter, Member we wanted to honor our highest academic student achievers. Seniors receiving academic scholarships to their Stephanie Lucarelli, Member future college or university were recognized during this first-time event. Each high school had a unique flair to their Academic Signing Day. I look forward to seeing this program grow in the future. The last few months of the school year are when academic competitions take center stage. As we continue our goal to add more academic challenges for students, we celebrate the accomplishments they have achieved. www.collierschools.com Recently, student “mathletes” returned for the second year of the Elementary Math Challenge and the first-ever Middle School Math Competition for sixth graders. The annual STEAM Competition brought excitement with the same great events, plus a new middle school VEX Road Trip event. Student filmmakers wowed us with their environmentally focused digital stories at the Student iFilm Festival held at Rookery Bay and the Conservancy of 5775 Osceola Trail Southwest Florida. Additionally, students pitched their business ideas at the annual Innovation Competition and Naples, Florida 34109 Lely High School student entrepreneurs were chosen as this year’s winning team. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing our students achieve! The District celebrated an exciting achievement this year as well. summer 2015 edition A LOOK BACK! SECOND SEMESTER OF THE 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENTS Academic Competitions, Art Displays, and Music Showcases SHINING STARS Teachers, Staff, and Volunteers PHOTO GALLERY Second Semester Flashback COMMUNITY Partnerships in Action MESSAGE FROM YOUR SUPERINTENDENT It is with great pride that I present to you an overview of one of the best school districts in the country, Collier County Public Schools (CCPS). We serve nearly 45,000 students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. We truly believe education is not only the shared responsibility of the school and the home, but the community as well. This is why we want to share the many successes of the past year with you, in hopes that you will continue to support our mission of providing quality educational programs for our students. One exciting event we most recently celebrated was our second annual iSTEM Competition which brought together students from across the district for a day filled with science, technology, engineering, and math activities. It was great to see the students showcasing their critical thinking skills and having fun at the same time. This year we witnessed our students take home top honors in many other academic programs, including the Laws of Life Essay Contest and our Scholar Bowls. Also, who can forget all of the talented students who participated in our many fine arts programs? It was a joy to see the students perform so passionately in our middle and high school honors chorus, orchestra, and band concerts. I am extremely proud of our high schools when it comes to school grades and graduation rates.

District School Board First, a big congratulations to the more than 2,800 Class of 2016 graduates! of Collier County It is so exciting to see graduates walking across the stage on their way to Julie Sprague, Chair the next step in their path, whether it is heading to a college or university, a Roy M. Terry, Vice Chair technical college, the military, or straight into the workforce. Kathy Curatolo, Member Erika Donalds, Member This year, we were recognized as an “A” rated school district. This was a great Kelly Lichter, Member accomplishment considering the 2014-15 school year was the first to include the Florida Standards Assessment in the District’s grade. Even more impressive, 11 of our schools increased their school grade from the previous year. In a time when changes were being made at the state level, our schools continued to achieve. I am so CCPS Proud! www.collierschools.com Speaking of proud, the District received a huge honor from our Collier County Commissioners this year. In a proclamation, they declared April 26th as CCPS Proud Day in recognition of the District’s “A” rating. We also had the opportunity to give community leaders an inside look at our schools this year during our CCPS Proud Tours.
