Successsummer 2017 END-OF-YEAR LETTER FROM A publication by Collier County Public Schools CCPS SuccessSummer 2017 END-OF-YEAR LETTER FROM Dr. Kamela Patton As the 2016-17 school year comes to a close, I would like to reflect on all that we have accomplished together at Collier County Public Schools (CCPS). The end of the year is an extremely special time for students, especially our graduating seniors. Last year, seniors were celebrated throughout the District before walking across the stage and receiving their diploma by participating in Graduation Walks at two local elementary schools. High school Dr. Kamela Patton seniors donned their caps and gowns and walked through their former elementary schools, receiving wild cheers Superintendent and applause from elementary students. Seeing the excitement from both sets of students, the District expanded this program to include all of our high schools and more elementary schools. It is important that seniors are District School Board celebrated and our young students are inspired to see what their future could hold. of Collier County Roy M. Each high school had a unique flair to their Academic Signing Day. I look forward to seeing this program grow in the future. The last few months of the school year are when academic competitions take center stage. As we continue our goal to add more academic challenges for students, we celebrate the accomplishments they have achieved. www.collierschools.com Recently, student “mathletes” returned for the second year of the Elementary Math Challenge and the first-ever Middle School Math Competition for sixth graders. The annual STEAM Competition brought excitement with the same great events, plus a new middle school VEX Road Trip event. Student filmmakers wowed us with their environmentally focused digital stories at the Student iFilm Festival held at Rookery Bay and the Conservancy of 5775 Osceola Trail Southwest Florida. Additionally, students pitched their business ideas at the annual Innovation Competition and Naples, Florida 34109 Lely High School student entrepreneurs were chosen as this year’s winning team. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing our students achieve! The District celebrated an exciting achievement this year as well. It was a joy to see the students perform so passionately in our middle and high school honors chorus, orchestra, and band concerts. I am extremely proud of our high schools when it comes to school grades and graduation rates.
