Master Narrative Ours Is the Epic Story of the Royal Navy, Its Impact on Britain and the World from Its Origins in 625 A.D
NMRN Master Narrative Ours is the epic story of the Royal Navy, its impact on Britain and the world from its origins in 625 A.D. to the present day. We will tell this emotionally-coloured and nuanced story, one of triumph and achievement as well as failure and muddle, through four key themes:- People. We tell the story of the Royal Navy’s people. We examine the qualities that distinguish people serving at sea: courage, loyalty and sacrifice but also incidents of ignorance, cruelty and cowardice. We trace the changes from the amateur ‘soldiers at sea’, through the professionalization of officers and then ships’ companies, onto the ‘citizen sailors’ who fought the World Wars and finally to today’s small, elite force of men and women. We highlight the change as people are rewarded in war with personal profit and prize money but then dispensed with in peace, to the different kind of recognition given to salaried public servants. Increasingly the people’s story becomes one of highly trained specialists, often serving in branches with strong corporate identities: the Royal Marines, the Submarine Service and the Fleet Air Arm. We will examine these identities and the Royal Navy’s unique camaraderie, characterised by simultaneous loyalties to ship, trade, branch, service and comrades. Purpose. We tell the story of the Royal Navy’s roles in the past, and explain its purpose today. Using examples of what the service did and continues to do, we show how for centuries it was the pre-eminent agent of first the British Crown and then of state policy throughout the world. -

The deep Mediterranean, 15 however, has a low diversity of isopods related to its oligotrophy, the thermal stability of deep-water 16 masses (~12.8 °C below 150 ˗ 200 m) and rather homogeneous geomorphology. -

Halacarsantia ovata sp. nov. differs from its congeners in having coxal plates hidden in dorsal view on pereonites 1, 2 and 4-7, dorsal-laterally situated eyes on head, without conspicuous bulging processes, pleopod 1 bearing 2 long ventral and 6 short apical setae, and sympod of pleopod 2 about three times as long as broad. Halacarsantia setosa is distinguishable from its congeners in having many dorsal robust setae on head, pereonites and pleotelson. INTRODUCTION TAXONOMY Santiidae is a small family in the suborder Asellota It Halacarsantia ovata sp. nov. includes 25 species of five genera, all from marine benthic (Figs. 1-3) habitats (Wolff 1989 ; Muller 1992 ; Shimomura & Material examined Hikigawa-cho, Nishimuro-gun, Wakayama Mawatari 2000, 2001 ; Wolff & Brandt 2000 ; Kensley & Prefecture, Japan, snorkeling, 3 m depth, on sponges [Clatharia Schotte 2002 ; Kensley 2003). Halacarsantia Wolff, 1989, (Clatharia) fasciculata (Wilson, 1925)], 2 August 2003 : holoty being a small genus in the family, includes 4 species : H. pe, male, 0.62 mm (KMNH IvR 700,001); paratype, ovig. fe uniramea (Menzies & Miller, 1955) from Wellington, New male, 0.85 mm (KMNH IvR 700,002). -

The force weighed and left Oosthaven at 4 p .m. on the 14th, and formed in two columns . The Dutch cruisers, led by De Ruyter, were to starboard ; and the British, led by Hobart as Senior Officer, to port . The six U.S. destroyers screened ahead ; and three Dutch astern. One of the four Dutch ships had bee n sent on ahead to mark Two Brothers Island off the south-east coast o f Sumatra, and join later. Air reconnaissance on the 13th had indicated four groups of enemy vessels : two cruisers, two destroyers, and two transports about sixty miles south of the Anambas Islands, steering south-west a t 10 a.m. ; one cruiser, three destroyers and eight transports some twenty miles to the eastward of the first group, and steering south at 10.30 a.m. ; three cruisers, five destroyers and one transport, about sixty miles nort h of Banka Island and steering west at 3 .30 p.m.; and two destroyers with fourteen transports about 100 miles north of Billiton island, and steerin g S.S.W., at 4.30 p.m. Doorman led his force northwards in accordance with the decision s reached by him and Helfrich—to go northwards through Gaspar Strait, round Banka, and back through Banka Strait, "destroying any enemy force s seen".
