A todos, muito obrigado! 3 Resumo Esta dissertação tem como foco principal a abordagem à interpretação em tempo real sobre material sonoro pré-gravado, num contexto performativo. Neste caso particular, material sonoro é entendido como música, que consiste numa pulsação regular e definida. O objetivo desta investigação é compreender os diferentes modelos de organização referentes a esse material e, consequentemente, apresentar uma solução em forma de uma aplicação orientada para a performance ao vivo intitulada Reap. Importa referir que o material sonoro utilizado no software aqui apresentado é composto por músicas inteiras, em oposição às pequenas amostras (samples) recorrentes em muitas aplicações já existentes. No desenvolvimento da aplicação foi adotada a análise estatística de descritores aplicada ao material sonoro pré-gravado, de maneira a retirar segmentos que permitem uma nova reorganização da informação sequencial originalmente contida numa música. Através da utilização de controladores de matriz com feedback visual, o arranjo e distribuição destes segmentos são alterados e reorganizados de forma mais simplificada. -

Con el presente trabajo se pretende realizar una inmersión a las manifestaciones artísticas que se dan en el entorno No Wave de Nueva York entre los años 70 y 80. El objetivo principal es estudiar las relaciones que existen entre las figuras más relevantes tanto en artes plásticas como en música y cine. El título “Lenguajes artísticos y vanguardias” responde a una intención de establecer las colaboraciones y cruces entre las artes, ya que al tratarse de un movimiento heterogéneo, se puede y se busca estudiar diferentes artistas y objetos artísticos. Este aspecto, a nivel personal, es otro de los que nos convencieron para abordar este tema, ya que nos permite indagar en varias manifestaciones en lugar de centrarnos en una única expresión, así como en los artistas clave del momento y como encajan todos los elementos en un lugar y momento determinados. -
Music on PBS: a History of Music Programming at a Community Radio Station
Music on PBS: A History of Music Programming at a Community Radio Station Rochelle Lade (BArts Monash, MArts RMIT) A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy January 2021 Abstract This historical case study explores the programs broadcast by Melbourne community radio station PBS from 1979 to 2019 and the way programming decisions were made. PBS has always been an unplaylisted, specialist music station. Decisions about what music is played are made by individual program announcers according to their own tastes, not through algorithms or by applying audience research, music sales rankings or other formal quantitative methods. These decisions are also shaped by the station’s status as a licenced community radio broadcaster. This licence category requires community access and participation in the station’s operations. Data was gathered from archives, in‐depth interviews and a quantitative analysis of programs broadcast over the four decades since PBS was founded in 1976. Based on a Bourdieusian approach to the field, a range of cultural intermediaries are identified. These are people who made and influenced programming decisions, including announcers, program managers, station managers, Board members and the programming committee. Being progressive requires change. This research has found an inherent tension between the station’s values of cooperative decision‐making and the broadcasting of progressive music. The "blank generation" came out of a moral vacuum. While punks roamed the suburban landscape, blue-collar workers were feeling the pinch of an economic revolution: human society had left the industrial age and entered the post-industrial age, the age in which services (such as software) prevail over manufacturing. Computers now rule the world, from Wall Street to Boeing. The assembly line took away a bit of the personality of the worker, but that was nothing: the new service- based economy takes away the worker completely, physically. In the post-industrial society the individual is even less of a "person". The individual is merely a cog in a huge organism of interconnected parts that works at the beat of a gigantic network of computers. This highly sophisticated economy treats the individual as a number, as a statistic. The goal is no longer to create a robot that behaves like a human being, but to create a human being that behaves like a robot: robots are efficient and lead to manageable and profitable businesses, whereas humans are inefficient and difficult to manage. -

MARTIN REV SEE ME RIDIN’ Reissue (originally released 1996) CD / LP / Digital Out: October 16th 2020 Romantic Energy Martin Rev’s fourth solo album See Me Ridin’ was released on the New York label Reachout International Records (ROIR) in 1996. Received by the critics with amazement, it proved to be a watershed moment in his career. Journalist Neil Cooper wrote at the time: "When I first heard Rev's new record, I was taken aback. Was he serious? Was this some inside joke? He had to be kidding - or was he mentally over the top!" Its reception echoed that of the 1992 Suicide album Why Be Blue, which sprung such a surprise on fans of the duo comprising Martin Rev and Alan Vegas. On this particular solo album, Rev repeated the trick of dispensing with rough, brittle sounds. This was not Rev seeking to distance himself from his musical origins, he was actually getting back closer to his roots. Signs of Martin Rev’s formative influence as an electronic music pioneer can be seen in many places. Virtually no one would have expected him to deliver a doo-wop album, but in the light of Rev’s socialisation and artistic tradition, it reflects a logical process of absolute reduction. Martin Rev crafted See Me Ridin’ as a kind of power pop hybrid, an album which owed much to the R&B and doo- wop of the 1950s and 1960s; the music which a youthful Martin Rev heard on the streets of New York, the soundtrack to his teenage years which had such an intense effect on him and would resurface in his own works. -

Tracklisting Alongside his work with Suicide, Martin Rev continued as a solo 1 Rocking Horse (5:45) artist, releasing his eponymous debut album in 1980 on New 2 Parade (6:45) York’s Infidelity label. Rev’s early solo excursions can be traced 3 Whisper (4:04) back to the original ideas which can be found – in modified form – 4 Rodeo (6:37) in Suicide songs: as instrumental versions which have been tex - 5 Metatron (6:25) turally enriched, like a familiar figure which has nevertheless 6 Clouds Of Glory (6:22) taken on a completely new existence. Five years later, in 1985, Martin Rev released his sophomore Promo solo LP on the Parisian label New Rose Records, although the Bureau B recordings on Clouds Of Glory actually dated back to the earlier Matthias Kümpflein part of the decade, following on from the Suicide sessions for Tel 0049-(0)40-881666-63 the duo’s second album. -
