Demographic and Socio-Economic Characteristics of the Population of Libungan Municipality (Based on the Results of POPCEN 2015 Highlights )

Population of Libungan increased at the rate of 1.42 percent annually

Based on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015), Libungan, a municipality in the province of , displayed a total population of 48,768 persons as of August 1, 2015. Compared to the previous 2010 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) total population of 45,295 persons, the POPCEN 2015 result is larger by 3,473 persons.

The increase in the population tally from 2010 to 2015 interpreted to an average an- nual population growth rate (PGR) of 1.42 percent. This is higher than the 0.72 percent annual PGR of the municipality between census years 2007 and 2010.

If the average annual PGR recorded at 1.42 percent during the period 2010 to 2015 continues, the population of Libungan would double in 49 years.

Forty-five years ago, the population of Libungan was only 19,029 persons. This population size is nearly one half of the population of the municipality in the POPCEN 2015.

Sex ratio was 108 males to 100 females

Of the 48,768 total population in 2015, females ac- counted for 51.9 percent while males comprised 48.1 per- cent. These figures resulted in a sex ratio of 108 males to 100 females, which is same to the sex ratio recorded in the household population in 2010 (108 males per 100 females).

Median age increases to 23.84 years

In 2015, the median age of the population of the mu- nicipality was 23.84 years, which means that half of the population was younger than 23.84 years. This is marginally higher than the median age of 22.24 years that was recorded in 2010.

Moreover, 30.4 percent of the household population were under 15 years old. Persons aged 5 to 9 years (10.4 percent) comprised the largest age group, followed closely by age group 10 to 14 years (9.7 percent). Males outnumbered females in the age group 0 to 54 years. On the other hand, females were more than males in the age group 55 years and over.

Approximately three-fifths of the population were of voting age

The voting-age population (18 years and over) accounted for 61.75 percent of the household population of the municipality in 2015, higher from 59.39 percent in 2010. There were more males (51.88 percent) than females (18.12 percent) among the voting- age population.

Dependency ratio decreased to 60 dependents per 100 persons in the working age group

In 2015, the young dependents (0 to 14 years) consist of 32.12 percent of the household population while the old dependents (65 years and over) composed of 5.07 percent. The working-age population (15 to 64 years) accounted for the remaining 62.81 percent.

Overall, the dependency ratio was 60, which indicates that for every 100 working- age population, there were about 60 dependents (49 young dependents and 11 old de- pend In 2015, the young dependents (0 to 14 years) consist of 30.4 percent of the house- hold population while the old dependents (65 years and over) composed of 7.0 percent. The working-age population (15 to 64 years) accounted for the remaining 62.6 percent.

Senior citizens constitute 7.92 percent of the household population

People who are regarded as senior citizen are those aged 60 years old and over. In Libungan they made up 7.92 percent of the 48,650 household population in 2015. Among the senior citi- zens, females (53.16 percent) outnumbered the males (46.84 per-

There were more males than females among the never-married person

Of the household population 10 years old and over, 41.47 percent were never married while 46.92 percent were married. The other catego- ries of the rest of the population were as follows: common-law/live-in mari- tal arrangement (5.86 percent), widowed (4.52 percent), and divorced/ separated (1.21 percent). On the other hand, unknown marital status only posted at 0.02 percent.

Among the never-married persons, 58.24 percent were males while 41.76 percent were married. For the rest of the categories for marital status, the females outnumbered the males.

Approximately two-fifths of the household population are of school age

The school-age population (5 to 24 years) in Libungan composed of 40.51 percent of the population. Of the population who were school- age, the males made up of 52.53 percent, while the female ac- counted for 47.47 percent. Out of the school-age population, 67.7 percent are currently attending school in 2015.

Simple Literacy Rate was recorded at 98.57 percent

The literacy rate of Libungan based on household population is 98.57 per- cent among the 38,234 person aged 10 year and over. Out of the 98.57 percent literacy rate, males had the higher percentage than females with 51.94 percent and 48.06 percent respectively.

More females had attained higher levels of education

Of the household population aged five years and over, 13.07 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 21.45 percent had reached or finished high school, 7.60 percent were college under- graduates, and 7.03 were academic degree holders. More females pursue higher levels of education than males, as majority of those with an academic degree (69.09 percent) and post baccalaureate course (65.8 percent) were females.

Average household size was 4.2 persons

The number of households in 2015 was recorded at 11,476, higher by 1,396 households compared with 10,080 households in 2010. The average household size in 2015 was 4.7 persons, lower than the average household size of 4.5 persons in 2010.

TECHNICAL NOTES

The 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) was undertaken by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in August 2015 as mandated by Republic Act No. 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistics Act of 2013 . It was the 14 th Census of Population that was under- taken since the first census in 1903. POPCEN 2015 was designed to take an inventory of the total population all over the Philippines and collect information about their characteristics. Census day for the POPCEN 2015 was August 1, 2015 (12:01 a.m.). POPCEN 2015 made use of the de jure concept of enumeration wherein households and persons are enumerated in the area where they usually reside as of the census reference date. Enumeration lasted for about 25 days, from 10 August to 6 September 2015. Enumeration was extended until 15 September 2015 for large provinces and some highly urbanized cities.
